All About You

1. Describe your ideal house/home. Please go into as much detail as possible, and be sure to include your ideal geographical location in the description!.
This is difficult. I think that I may end up moving a lot throughout my life because there are so many places where I want to live. However, I'd like to live in a somewhat remote place - remote enough to be surrounded by nature, and to have a mysterious, long, foresty sort of driveway. However, I'd like to be able to reach a city fairly quickly and without too much trouble. Where I live right now is ideal in terms of location: I can get to the city in about an hour. The house itself? I like pretty things, probably too much to be practical. So I'd want a nice house, nicely-designed with modern, dramatic sort of architecture and modern furniture. However, I'd want most of the living spaces to be fairly small. I like being cozy. I also care more about reading and music than I do about cleaning and preparing food and other necessary things, so I'd need lots of shelf space and room for my piano. I'd also like an extra room or two for friends, because I'd love to have them visit and feed them.
2. Name three things you are afraid of. Explain.
A lot of my fears are broad and maybe a bit silly.
Firstly, I am afraid of people close to me disappearing. Not dying, for some reason, but disappearing as if they had never existed, so that we had no mutual impact upon each others' lives (I don't like to forget anything).
Secondly: I am afraid of disappointment. I can put personal disappointments in perspective, but disappointing those who are close to me is scary. I can't avoid my family, so I work hard not to disappoint them, but I often avoid social situations for this reason.
Finally, I like the idea that hard work translates into success. The idea of reaching a certain point in any part of life, where both ability and hard work just aren't enough for me to succeed, is something that often bothers me.
3. Imagine you’re given the classic opportunity: a genie granting you three wishes. What would you wish for? Please be as elaborate as you can. Wishing for more wishes is not permitted!
Ouch. This question. Okay.
First: I would wish for happiness for my friends and family, whatever form that may take for each of them.
Second: I would wish for myself the time, abilities, and resources to be able to pursue all of my interests. I'm worried that I'll be forced to choose just one interest and, if some of my family members have a say, the most lucrative one!
Third: I would wish for clearheadedness in all people, if that makes sense. I want everyone to care about things, because I think that disinterest is dangerous to everyone, and I want people to be free of superstition.
4. In your life so far, what accomplishment are you the most proud of? Why? You can list more than one if you have trouble deciding. ;)
To be honest, I haven't lived very long, so that's a hard question. I think I am proud of my music. I've played the piano for most of my life, but I started playing jazz several years ago. It terrified me because I'm a very un-spontaneous, introverted sort of person. Playing piano was formerly a source of comfort for me, and at that point it required more spontaneity and emotion than I was willing to give. I've improved a lot and I'm playing in a combo now.
5. Which of the following is most important to you: Love, Money, Knowledge, Family, Friendship, Adventure, or Pleasure? Which is the least important to you? Please explain why for each choice.
I feel guilty for this choice, but knowledge. I mean all kinds of knowledge: I want to be a better musician. I want to be an informed citizen. I love to read, and I especially love to know any sort of fact. Education is one of the most influential things in our lives (for better or for worse). Last reason: I love to know why. I'm fascinated by unexplained phenomena, the more grotesque or inexplicable the better!
6. What's one quote (or passage, song lyric, etc.) that effectively describes you and your values? Explain.
"I confess I cannot guess/Meaning into loveliness/Feel, but cannot tell you why/Something of wonder in the sky/I confess no speech nor act/Of mine explains the mystic fact/Which enigma, having struck/a victim will not give him up/So I press into my brain/Cross of wonder, star of pain/Monstrous flower of confusion/Myriad petals of delusion/'Till at last I seem to stand/With my strengthless Atlas hand/Supporting Heaven quite alone/Stone by dark and lustrous stone." - Tennessee Williams. This poem is not my favorite, but it does express how I sometimes feel about the world. There are so many things I would like to say or to describe, but I often lack the words to express them.
7. How do you manage your money? On that note, how important is money/financial security to you? Go into as much detail as you can.
I'm pretty careful with money. However, I feel that it is my duty to purchase books whenever I enter a bookstore, so the result is periods of little spending varying with book-buying binges. Financial security is important to me, but I think that it will be hard for me to reconcile my interests and my expenditures in the future.
8. Name (and elaborate on) some of your hobbies. What are your favorite things to do outside of school/the office?
I read. No, really. If I have nothing new to read, I re-read. For me it is a complicated activity, involving blankets, tea, and snacks, and I read a little bit of everything.
Secondly, I play the piano. It occupies a great deal of my time, and I have giant stacks of music lying around. I also listen a little bit of everything.
Also, I read the news: I spend a good bit of time fuming over this political issue or that when I'm focused, or just browsing for pointless news when I'm not.
I'm a homey sort of person, so I will ramble in a notebook, doodle, or play pointless online games within a fixed radius. I'm a bit dull, actually. I also watch a lot of detective shows; I find crime and punishment strangely fascinating.
9. Name (and elaborate on) your top three BEST and top three WORST qualities (personality-related, not physical). Please answer as fully as you can, as this is an important question.
My best qualities:
Firstly, I have a very strong sense of right and wrong, and of fairness. Though I don't do anything earthshaking with my beliefs, I do think that they guide my life.
Secondly, I am fairly hard-working. I like to do my best whenever possible, and I find it satisfying.
Finally, I'd like to think that I'm a pretty compassionate person, sometimes too much so. I want to make some sort of positive difference in the world.
My worst qualities:
First: My sense of right and wrong is also a bad quality, because I tend to overreact, and I have trouble with compromise. I tend to be close-minded about politics: I take a government class and I'm the "bitchy one."
Next, I am insecure. The approval of friends and family members is important to me, because they are the very most important people in my life. I tend to brood over their actions and opinions, and to dissect conversations.
Third: I'm a bit of an elitist. I'm often frustrated by my generation, especially my classmates, because they don't seem to care about anything. I sometimes make snap judgments about people who abuse punctuation!

A Song of Ice and Fire Related

1.Who are your favorite three characters in the series? Why?
I would be lazy and say all of the Starks, but I'm going force myself to think harder than that.
For some reason, Ned is one of my favorites. I found endearing - and, in a way, respected - his foolish and uncompromising nobility. Also, he just seemed like a good daddy. I wanted him to be my daddy.
Arya, of course. When I was little I was a tomboy like Arya, minus her infinitely higher badass level. I wanted to give her a hug and ruffle her hair, but she would bite me.
I have a tie here between Oberyn Martell and the Hound. They were both intriguing bastards, but for different reasons. Oberyn was a sexy bastard. Sandor was satisfying complicated, just enough of a bastard not to be an object of pity. His interaction with Arya was interesting.
2.Who are your least favorite three characters in the series? Why?
I lost interest in Daenerys after the birth of her dragons, because she seemed to have such a sense of self-entitlement.
I don't know quite how I feel about Jon Snow. I found him self-pitying and far too noble, but he improved a bit.
I disliked Tywin Lannister far more than any of his screwed-up children. Parents who mess up their children make me angry.
3.#1 Favorite moment in all of ASOIAF so far? Why?
I loved the whole series, so I'm not sure. I'll choose the end of A Storm of Swords, when Littlefinger pushes Lysa to her death, because it's just so epic. What a great way to end a book - it was like a good piece of music.
4. In your dream-world, how would you like to see the series end, and why?
I want the remaining Starks to survive! I'm worried about Arya. I want Sansa to beat Littlefinger somehow, because he deserves to be outwitted. I hope that Sandor is alive, and I want Samwell to be happy because he's adorable. So really, I'm just going to cross my fingers and see what happens.

...this is haaard because I am biased and possibly know you too much. So I see the Stark in you every day of the more fiery and hot-headed sort, but there is so much KNOWLEDGE WANT TO KNOW MORE here combined with the sense of people should get what's coming to them that makes me want to say Martell...

...argh.

I think I'm going to go with Stark though, because of the insecurity and the fact that I see it all the time in you, not just in this app. But I can see Martell veeeery easily here too.

Martell

From: [identity profile] angerfish.livejournal.com
Heh, I can see a loooot of Stark but the Martell outweighs it all. First there's the emphasis on knowledge (Oberyn and Sarella both went to the citadel), elitism and frustration that those around you won't get things done correctly (which is very Doran, even though you're one of the more.... fiery Martells overall), you're hard-working, which is Sarella-ish (she's close to getting her Maester's chain after a very short time), and quietly determined which is also pretty Sarella-ish. Meanwhile, frustration with your generation reminds me of Arianne and the Sand Snakes.

Yep, I'm sure about my vote.

I read your application from bottom to top and in so doing was immediately convinced that you were a Stark but ended up thinking that you are in fact a definite Martell.

Definitely a Martell, for the same reasons that [livejournal.com profile] chisakami stated. Also for your emphasis on people not caring- if there's one thing to be said about Martells in general (whether it's the fiery sort or not), it's certainly that disinterest is -not- one of our traits. Come to the Water Gardens with us! I'll even share some blood oranges... maybe.

Also, I totally get you about Dany. I was interested in her development until that point as well. Then I yawned and got bored.

I see quite a bit of Martell and Tyrell in you (the desire to travel, your ideal house description) but the emphasis on the unknown and enigmatic, and your best and worst traits make me think Targaryen and Stark instead. Putting knowledge first sways me towards Targ, but your book answers are pretty Starky... OK, I'm going to go with Stark, but I could very easily see you in Targ or Martell.

I actually saw a lot of Tully, from all the focus on family and closeness, but I think I'm going to join the Stark votes. You've got a kind of thoughtfulness and a sense of hard work that seem to suit the Lords of the North.

I don't see the Martell. I can see the Stark, but I don't feel that its quite the right fit. You anxieties and morality and introverted but passionate nature makes me think of the historical Targs - there may be a bit a Rhaegar in you. Hmmm. The desire to please, combined with you somewhat black-and-white view of things, also makes me think Lannister, a little. But in the end... Targaryen

I'll side with the Martell faction, mainly because I kept thinking of Sarella (knowledge-seeking of all sorts!) and Arianne (for that frustration and make-a-difference passion) throughout this app.

It's funny that one of your favorite characters is Ned, because after a few paragraphs I realized that you remind me of him. A lot. You're very honest and straight-forward in a introverted and philosophical kind of way, and you care very deeply. Stark, about as much as somebody can actually be. ♥

Starkly Stark. Close-minded, rigid sense of right and wrong, and yet you love beautiful things (shades of Sansa)? Your thirst for knowledge isn't particularly Stark, perhaps, but I think they've all got a truth-seeking impulse. Arya, Bran--I can see it.

It's funny that Stark and Martell have been so closely tied in votes lately. In this case, I definitely see Stark. :) Favorite characters, too. I mean, y'know.

[livejournal.com profile] shelled_avenger, along a Meera/Sarella split, and recently [livejournal.com profile] scarletfall. I think it's definitely the quieter Martells that factor in there, though really if I had to re-sort Arya somewhere I think it'd be Martell.

To be honest, I haven't lived very long, so that's a hard question.

I found it interesting that you worded it this way. Quite a few people say in their applications that they haven't had much in the way of great accomplishments yet, but I can't at the moment recall anyone putting it quite like *that*. I'm not really sure how to explain this, but you seem like you've simultaneously got a passion for life and an acceptance for life. I don't know if that makes any sense. @_@

I also found it interesting that you listed knowledge as the most important to you in Question 5, and seemed to get so into your explanation of why that it didn't even occur to you to say what was least important to you.

Your wishes, your political consciousness, your many interests, your best and worst qualities... you are a Martell to the core. :)
