Name: Thistle
How did you find out about the community? If it's through an LJ user, please tell us who it is: There was a [livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets post mentioning this comm, so I followed the trail and ended up here!
Age: Do we need to give an exact answer here? I'm an adult, college graduate, working full time.
Location: California (Silicon Valley)
Occupation: QA work, tech support, "whatever the heck they need me to do so OMG I don't get laid off right now!".

All About You

1. Describe your ideal house/home. Please go into as much detail as possible, and be sure to include your ideal geographical location in the description!.

Oddly, I find my current living situation is really close to ideal. I have an apartment in a quiet little town. I'm a single person, I have only a cat I live with, so something like a house would be way too big -- I don't like rattling around in lots of empty space. At night everything is silent (which I love), and there's not so much light that you can't see the stars. Lots of trees and greenery around, as well as lots of pretty flowers. (Only downside is the price -- I'm in the mega-expensive part of California with non-mega paying job.)

The only thing that would make it more perfect is if there were fewer people around me (heh, I know, apartment living = people around!). If I could walk around and never see other people, that would make me even happier.

2. Name three things you are afraid of. Explain.

1) My cat dying. She's 20, so I know it'll happen sooner rather than later, but it'll kill me when it happens. She and I have been living alone together all of her life, and I couldn't love anything more than I love her.

2) Needing to depend on other people/not being able to take care of myself. Unreasonable though it may be, I want to be able to do everything I need to do, on my own, with no help from others.

3) Interviewing for a new job. The idea of someone judging me makes me twitch, and there's so much a job interview might judge you on! Your skills, your looks, even your voice or something like that!

3. Imagine you’re given the classic opportunity: a genie granting you three wishes. What would you wish for? Please be as elaborate as you can. Wishing for more wishes is not permitted!

Hmmmm. Feels a little like cheating, but my wishes would be related to my fears and other previous answers:

1) My cat living as long as I do, happy and healthy and not in pain.
2) Winning the lottery or something so I don't ever have to work and can live as I like.
3) Having some kind of magical body so I could eat as much as I want and never gain weight.

4. In your life so far, what accomplishment are you the most proud of? Why? You can list more than one if you have trouble deciding. ;)

One of my jobs soon after graduating college was at an animal shelter. I raised orphaned kittens there and took pregnant mother cats home so they could give birth in a home setting (less stressful) instead of in a cage. I worked very hard, and somewhere out there hopefully there are happy families with happy pets raised by me!

5. Which of the following is most important to you: Love, Money, Knowledge, Family, Friendship, Adventure, or Pleasure? Which is the least important to you? Please explain why for each choice.

Hmmm. Most important would be money I suppose, since that could cover other things (money can help my family, and could bring pleasure and adventure, perhaps friendship and love as well, and knowledge for sure). Least is ... hmm. Can I have a tie? Friendship (I'm not a people person at all, I like being alone) and adventure (boring is good! A perfect vacation to me is staying home watching TV and playing video games).

6. What's one quote (or passage, song lyric, etc.) that effectively describes you and your values? Explain.

No life can escape being blown about
By the winds of change and chance
And though you never know all the steps
You must learn to join the dance
You must learn to join the dance

I couldn't think of one that describes me, so I semi-fudged this answer. That quote is something I know I should try to live up to, though I fail a lot (and don't try, more often).

7. How do you manage your money? On that note, how important is money/financial security to you? Go into as much detail as you can.

Simple answer: I generally live as though I was poor. My rule is "live like you're poor and you never will be". I don't tend to splurge on stuff, spending money makes me feel uncomfortable, I'd rather save it "just in case".

It's very important to me, as (cliche as it is) money is power. Money is also freedom. Money is everything.

8. Name (and elaborate on) some of your hobbies. What are your favorite things to do outside of school/the office?

I play MMOs. FFXI for more than five years, and now WoW. Oddly, as much as I'm not a people-person, I play for other people. It's nice to become a 'family' with people you've never met.

I also enjoy roleplaying (through text, not face to face).

9. Name (and elaborate on) your top three BEST and top three WORST qualities (personality-related, not physical). Please answer as fully as you can, as this is an important question.

My first one counts as both a best and worst. I'm driven. Unendingly driven. When something gets my attention, I do it nonstop, 24/7, even at the cost of sleep, eating, and health, until I get it done successfully (or die trying! ha ha). What makes this bad is I expect the same of others. (I ran an online game once and put every waking second into it (and didn't sleep much!), even logging in from work and running it there. I expected the same of the staff I hired (unpaying positions), which really didn't go over well.)

Second one could count as both as well... I'm creative, which can be a great thing, but it can also be bad because I often sit around worrying and thinking about all the bad things that could happen.

Third for worst: I ignore things that shouldn't be. (Health wise, for example. Exercise is good! Sitting endlessly in front of the computer is bad! Easy to know that, easy to ignore it.)
Third for best: I'm anal about being on time all the time. 15 or 30 minutes early = good! A minute late = GAH!

A Song of Ice and Fire Related

1.Who are your favorite three characters in the series? Why?

The Hound. Why is a good question! I'm dying to have time to reread the series and see when I went from disliking him to loving him. A simple answer would be because he's flawed.

Arya. I don't usually like "spunky girl" characters, but I love her so much. Probably because she's so "ungirly" in a world where girls are supposed to be ladies -- I'd be just like her!

Brienne. I love her as well. That she's not beautiful and so loyal makes my heart go out to her.

2.Who are your least favorite three characters in the series? Why?

This is a hard question because there are characters you're not supposed to like. I hate Joffrey, but who doesn't? I dislike Sansa, though I sometimes understand why she does what she does. Perhaps oddly, I hate Cersei for the whole incest thing, but like Jaime quite a bit.

3.#1 Favorite moment in all of ASOIAF so far? Why?

Red wedding, for the reaction it got out of me. I had so totally not expected Robb to be killed! I read the sentence, blinked, reread it, then reread it again thinking somehow "he stabbed the longsword through his chest and into his heart" could somehow have duel meaning. :P

4. In your dream-world, how would you like to see the series end, and why?

One of the many reasons I like the series is how dark it is and how willing GRRM is to kill off main characters. I've often thought it'd be amusing if all the main characters ended up dead in the end.

I see a somewhat rare combination of Tully and Lannister here. The early part of the app, where you describe your wishes/fears and your most proud moment, was making me thing Tully. You have a big heart and value your ability to nurture. Cliche or not, your value of money made me think Lannister. I think Tywin would appreciate your pragmatism, even if he himself is much more excessive than you are (golden armor and what not). I was going to ignore that, though, until you got to your best and worst qualities and you put "driven" right there at the top. What are our Lannisters if not driven? I think you could do well in either house, but your anxieties seem more Lannister to me (artistic fear, fears of dependency), so... to the lions with you. Lannister.

Your quote put me in quite the mind to vote Stark, needing to be prodded into joining in and all that. Then there's the stress on money, which is maybe Lannister, but then you maybe come off as a hoarder which could be Stark ... but then again you say money is *power* and *freedom* ... I'm tempted to settle on Targaryen for the mix of compassion (orphan kitties!) and drive. But the "boring is good" thing again makes me think Stark over the other two. Ehh, I think Targaryen in the end, I don't think they're overly people-persons as a whole and sometimes Dany strikes me as pretty isolated, even though Starks have the whole lone wolf thing going on.

I'm kind of iffy, maybe I'll come back and change this, I dunno!

Hi! I work in Silicon Valley too.

In spite of ranking money first, you are such a Stark. There's just a real "Winter is Coming" feel, and all of the specifics that [profile] shelled_avenger mentioned.

As to third options: there used to be 'cake', but ... we eated it.

You're a tricky one to sort. There's a lot of Lannister to your answers, but the reasoning behind them isn't always too terribly Lannister ... at least not the ones we tend to think of (Tyrion, Jamie, Cersei, Tywin). However, there's a hint of Tyrion in the reasons for frugality, and the emphasis on what money can do rather than just having it, and pet-love reminds me of Tommen. Therefore, I'm voting Lannister.

Stark

Aw. I kind of want to put you in Lannister just because of your kitty (http://cheezburger.com/View.aspx?aid=918252288). But the love of silence and going unnoticed is more of a Starky trait, and it's kind of opposite of the "hear me roar" mentality. However, I'm not sure Stark really fits either so I'm going to have to go for a compromise and say Tyrell.

You were kind of tough to place. I saw some Targaryen, Stark, and Lannister, but I think I'll have to go with Lannister because of the money and your drive.

Red wedding, for the reaction it got out of me. I had so totally not expected Robb to be killed! I read the sentence, blinked, reread it, then reread it again thinking somehow "he stabbed the longsword through his chest and into his heart" could somehow have duel meaning. :P

That scene made me throw my book across the room. XD

Wowzers, that f!secret is really working for us, hm?

I see a Lannister. You seem prideful and independent like a lion (you're even a cat person XD), you're very practical with your money and you seem er...intelligent in a lion-y way.

Lots of people like Jaime more than Cersei. GRRM wrote him to better liked, imo.

Also, everyone dead is kind of an epic ending.

Stark? I think? I sort of see the Lannister and Targ, and even a bit of Tully, but what really stood out was your drive answer. I sort of think the whole incest thing became an obsession with Ned and he didn't notice other things that might have saved him.

I'm ending up with Lannister, too, based mainly on the money thing. You had a bit of this and a bit of that, though, so in the end I picked what seemed like the kind of strong trait that would inform your life and went with it.

WOW! I see a lot of Targaryen here. Your quote about living like you were poor reminded me of Baelor the Blessed. Your talk about money could easily be seen as Lannister, but I also see it as rather extreme by saying "Money is everything" With the extremist vibe it pulls me towards Targaryen. With your work at the animal shelter, you found a cause to make the world a better place for others which also is very Targ-like. Your quote is from Prince of Egypt! I sing the river song with my girls. :) It reminded me of Dance with Dragons so that was another pull towards Targ.

Yay! The Hound is one of my favorites as well too!

Yep! Prince of Egypt quote! :D I love that movie so much! I'm not a religious person at all, but it's been the closest thing to tempting me to believe in such things. Loved the story, loved the music, loved the characters, everything!
Me too! It was really well done and my little girls love the music. The soundtrack is beautiful! I actually owned the CD way back when it came out and then my friends car was broken into and all our music was stolen. D:

Hmm, well you seem to be both a nurturing sort (kittens!) and highly driven. It was a toss up between Targ (I can see quite a few dragons being into role-playing too) and Lannister (Tywin would totally be good for his punctuality) for me, but I shall go with Lannister because your ambition feels like it's motivated more by pragmatism than like, prophecy. :)
