All About You

1. Describe your ideal house/home.  Please go into as much detail as possible, and be sure to include your ideal geographical location in the description!

Well, you said IDEAL home, so I’m going to go for my fantasy homes here. Yes, I have 2.

The first is a very distinctive mansion nestled in the mountains of Western Mass where I currently live. I like unique architecture. Something with special bricks made to look old would be nice. I’d also like it to have a tower. I’m too much in love with New England to think of living somewhere else entirely. This mansion would be located somewhere with spectacular scenery, but wouldn’t be too isolated from civilization. It would have a large pool with a waterslide because I love to swim. It would also have plenty of space for me to put my many, many books and display the various things I collect, like My Little Ponies & American Girl dolls.

The second is my vacation home. I would love to own my own Greek island. I’m a total Hellenist. On said island I would have a lovely vacation villa, done in classical style and complete with floor mosaics. The floors of the indoor and outdoor pools would also be mosaics.

Both homes would have extensive gardens as well.

2. Name three things you are afraid of.  Explain.

Falling- I had an accident once when I was 6 where I tripped, fell, hit my head on pavement and got a concussion. Ever since then, I’ve been very afraid of falling in any form: falling off of things, tripping, etc…

Failure- I am a fairly ambitious person. I set goals and expectations for myself, and I don’t take it very well if I fail to meet these goals.

Loneliness- I am deathly afraid that I will die alone, unloved, unremembered, and unnoticed until someone finally opens the door to the house and finds my decaying body. That my life will have meant nothing.

3. What is your favorite aspect of your physical appearance and why?

Well, I do have very nice eyes. They’re a rich shade of brown and framed by long, dark eyelashes. They’re also very intense. My hands and feet are nice too. They are small. I consider my feet to be more attractive than most other people’s. I have no ugly or otherwise icky-looking toes. And then there are my boobs. I’d like them to be perhaps a couple sizes smaller, but generally I’m fond of them. They come in handly sometimes *wink*

4. If you could change one thing about your physical appearance, what would you change and why?

I’d like to be taller and I’d also like to lose weight. I’ve gained so much weight since I’ve been in college. I used to be hot, but now I just look awful. And the fact that I’m short doesn’t help the situation either.

5. Imagine you’re given the classic opportunity: a genie granting you three wishes.  What would you wish for?  Wishing for more wishes is not permitted!

1-      To be a famous and successful writer.

2-      To have the perfect boyfriend, thereby ensuring that my loneliness nightmare doesn’t happen.

3-      To leave a good legacy behind through my books, thereby achieving a sort of “immortality” through my work.

6. In your life so far, what accomplishment are you the most proud of?  You can list more than one if you have trouble deciding. ;)

I do not believe I have accomplished anything important in my life so far. I guess I’ll just say getting into all 4 colleges I applied to.

7. Which of the following is most important to you: Love, Money, Knowledge, Family, Friendship, Adventure, or Pleasure?  Which is the least important to you?

Family is probably number 1. I love my family very much. Then would come love and friendship. Money, knowledge, and pleasure are all sort of interrelated to me, so they’d be next. And finally adventure. I’m not an adventurous person at all. I like safety.

8. What's one quote (or passage, song lyric, etc.) that effectively describes you and your values?

“Once I beheld a splendid dream,
A visionary scene of bliss:
Truth! - wherefore did thy hated beam
Awake me to a world like this?

I loved - but those I love are gone;
Had friends - my early friends are fled:
How cheerless feels the heart alone,
When all its former hopes are dead!
Though gay companions o'er the bowl
Dispel awhile the sense of ill'
Though pleasure stirs the maddening soul,
The heart - the heart - is lonely still.”
–from “I Would I Were a Careless Child” by Lord Byron

9. How do you manage your money?  On that note, how important is money/financial security to you?

I used to spend a lot of money on pointless crap that I didn’t need, but as I’ve gotten more expenses to deal with I’ve gotten better at managing money.

Financial security is definitely important. I really don’t like not having much money around, which is fairly frequent because college sucks money-wise.

10. Name (and elaborate on) some of your hobbies.  What are your favorite things to do outside of school/the office?

Reading- I read quite a bit. Ever since I learned how to read, I’ve always had my nose in a book.

Writing- It’s what I do. Writing isn’t something you do because you want do. You write because there is a driving need inside you that needs to be satiated, because the words just have to come out.

Fandom- I’m pretty involved in asoiaf fandom. I mod a few communities & I write fic. And I also participate casually in Silmarillion fandom.

Um… let’s just say “intimate activities” here. I won’t elaborate, but they are definitely things I  like to do in my spare time.

11. Name (and elaborate on) your top three BEST and top three WORST qualities (personality-related, not physical).

Loyalty- I am very loyal to those I feel have earned my loyalty. If you pass this test, I’ll be loyal to you till the end.

Strong Will- I have a great deal of willpower & am very good at forcing myself to do things I’m dreading or don’t necessarily want to do.

Honesty- I’m generally very honest, sometimes to the point of outright bluntness. You always know where you stand with me, because I don’t play games with people. I don’t bullshit.

Impatience- I don’t feel that I should ever have to wait for anything. Ever.

Spite- I’m a champion grudge holder. If you have done something to hurt or anger me, that’s it. It’s over. You’re dead to me and I’ll never forgive you. To this day, I have not forgiven the people who tormented me in middle school and probably never will.

Temper- It takes a lot to get me really mad but if you do, look out. It ain’t pretty.

A Song of Ice and Fire Related

1. Which is your favorite book of the series so far?  What about your least favorite?

It’s pretty much impossible to choose. I’m tempted to say ASoS because Oberyn appears in it and Dany is downright AWESOME in it, but Oberyn dies & there’s stuff like the Red Wedding. The Lannister victory is extremely difficult for me to stomach.

2. Who are your favorite three characters in the series?

Oberyn Martell- A completely awesome character. Sexy, intelligent, witty, charming, and dangerous. A great and cunning warrior, but also an excellent father. I find his devotion to Elia and his family in general extremely touching. It’s really extraordinary how he went through the trouble to find and raise his bastards, unlike, say, Robert.

Doran Martell- Also a fascinating character. A skilled politician with compassion for human beings who genuinely cares for his people. Those traits definitely make him stand out in Westeros. He’s the only great lord who I’d have no problems with serving. His devotion to his family is also extremely touching. I actually got a little teary when I read about him grieving for Oberyn.

Daenerys Targaryen- An amazing and inspirational character. I find her rise from a scared little girl to a badass queen to be very inspiring. I really relate to her and admire her perserverance in the face of endless obstacles. And like Doran, she truly cares about the people she rules. As a little side note, I was stamped as her on asoiaf_stamp!

3. Who are your least favorite three characters in the series?

Tywin Lannister- As far as I’m concerned, the man was pure evil. He cared for absolutely nothing except his house & his overwhelming ambition. To him, ambition comes well before human lives- the opposite of Doran. He also viciously abused his own child, which is completely inexcusable. Why was Gregor allowed to do what he did? Because of Tywin. And I think that may make him even worse than Gregor. He knew what Gregor did, but allowed and encouraged him to do it.

Gregor Clegane- Do I have to explain this one?

Joffrey “Baratheon”- Spoiled, vile little shit. Like Canon!Draco Malfoy, but with actual sadism!

4. #1 Favorite moment in all of ASOIAF so far?

Definitely “Vengeance. Justice. Fire & Blood.” It was just made of awesome, even though I suspected Doran was secretly supporting the Targs beforehand. Those words are extremely chilling, & when you read them you just know that the Lannisters are going down.

Honorable Mentions: Anything w/ Oberyn (excluding his death), the birth of the dragons, “DRACARYS!” (I actually raised my fist in the air & shouted “YES!” when I read that).

5. In your dream-world, how would you like to see the series end?

Dany marries Quentyn Martell. He, Tyrion, & Dany are the dragonriders. They defeat the Lannisters & Tyrells and reclaim the Iron Throne.

Dany isn’t really barren, so she & Quentyn have several kids.

Tyrion is Hand of the Queen.

Doran lives to see his revenge.

Asha rules the Iron Ils.

Winterfell is rebuilt.

Sansa kills LF, right before she runs off with Sandor.

Cersei is killed by Jaime.

Arya is reunited with Nymeria, & together they slaughter the Freys.

Honesty, strong will, loyalty, dislike of the Lannisters, hatred of the Freys (okay, yeah, I'll admit it... that one is pretty much UNI-FREAKING-VERSAL!...) focus on family, desire to see justice served, fear of failure... This might come as a bit of a surprise, since you only mentioned Winterfell once, and the Starks twice (and all of these things in your ideal end to the series), but I'm going to cast my vote for House Stark. I'm weird like that.

Hmm, I can definitely see where that Stark vote came from (you have the loyal and true thing going on but I suppose most of the houses have just a little bit of that anyway, at least to their families) but I'll have to go the obvious route and say Targaryen. It was your fear of failure and loneliness that first started me in that direction. Your description of writing seems very Targ passionate and your qualities are all Targ ones. Mostly, though it was just that you seemed like you belonged in one of the fiery houses (Targ, Martell or Lannister) but you had little or no use for subtlety which sounds like a Targaryen to me. (It could have also worked for Greyjoy but there was nothing else leading me in the direction.)

I know, and that actually had a bit to do with my hesitation to vote you that here. It's what I saw in the application and I went with that but I think it's fun to be able to look at the parts of ourselves we don't immediately see/like.

Seriously, I've been sitting here for quite a while trying to decide just which house would suit you. I can see where one would say Stark and the other would say Targaryen. I see a bit of both but I also see a bit of Martell there as well so it was a tough choice but I think I would have to say Targaryen.

Targaryen. Hands down. You are very passionate, fiery. And you collect things that most would condider very girlish, which I see a bit of in Dany. She's a young woman trying to make her way in a very harsh world, but still has dreams.

There is some Martell here, but the fact that you're not an avid fan of adventure makes me somewhat unsure about whether that'd be the proper place for you (I see their whole culture as very adventurous, in several senses :P).

I could see why someone would say Stark and someone would say Targaryen, and I could even see why someone might say Greyjoy. However, I'm going to go with Targaryen, as you're bold and fiery to the extreme. The line about your temper is especially reminiscent of Targaryens to me, with their "waking the dragon" business. I also think you've got the drive to fit in with this house.

Hmm, I say Martell. Your personality related qualities are very Martell (temper, grudges, loyal). Also, you love your family, more of a Martell thing than a Targaryen thing (I'm basing this on all the Targaryens we've seen in the westeros universe). And your Martellness also shows when you talk about your favourite moments (Vengeance, Fire and Blood, Dracarys, etc.). You also have a distict sort of humour that strikes me as very Martell.

I see where the Targ votes are coming from, but your application struck me from the beginning as Martell.
You seem headstrong, loyal, temperamental, but not in the slightly nutty way that's usually associated with Targaryens. Your fear of loneliness also points in that direction, since Martells are the family I usually picture together having a good time.

By the way... Joffrey was born in the westlands so technically he should be Joffrey Hill, is that right?

I thought it depended on the place where a bastard was raised. Jon Snow isn't Jon Sand. So he would be Joffrey Waters. And no, he was born in King's Landing. :)

Ah, point. I always forget about that, assuming that people are raised in the place they're born.
And I went to get a map since my grasp of fictional geography seems to be no better than my grasp of real geography. King's Landing is indeed not in the west. Whops?

Another Hellenist!! Awesome. If you ever do wind up owning a Greek island, I'm totally coming to live visit.

So, I also see where these Targaryen votes are coming from, but you are so totally Martell, it's not even funny. :) It starts right away with your ideal places to live - they reminded me an awful lot of where we see Doran (your great respect for whom, incidentally, also tugged me in the Martell direction). The combination of your grudge-holding with your slow-to-anger-ness also pulled you towards Dorne - while the Targs are also quite good with the whole grudge thing, it doesn't really take much to set the average Targ off.

House Martell for you, mmmmhmm. Seems that there's maybe a bit of a push going--for that and for Targaryen, actually--but the strain was decently consistent through the application, sooooo I'll go with it. XD Couple of reasons, here...

Wish number two definitely seemed more Martell to me. Just... Hrm. more emphasis there on being with others (whether married or not, they DO enjoy their companionship). And love of family certainly points toward them. Think knowledge would come higher for the Targaryens, aaaaand... yep. Again, Martells have that whole HEY that's my FAMILY, we needs some revenge, speaks to closer-knit, whatnot... YEP. The quote seems suitable for Arienna -in-tower... as in, could see her mulling it over up there.

Mmkay, the traits given? ALL very Martell, to my mind. "Spite" might just be THE Martell word, actually... so far as the negative traits are concerned. ;) Because they're got the loyalty, as well (hence, again, the revenge thing), and god knows they're strong willed. As have noted before, there is a bloody REASON those snakes were locked up in the tower. ;) Honest? In many cases, yes (note lack of beating around the bush in dealing with Doran, non?). Annnd yes, mix impatience, spite, and temper, and you've got yourself a sand snake. Possibly a Targaryen, yes, but given the rest of your application, this gives another quite solid point in the Martell direction. Sooooo there you be, ja.

I'm going to have to agree with the House Martell votes on the whole. There was definitely a healthy dose of the dragon in you, but it couldn't quite get past the Martell vibes that were battering me as I read your app through. Not that that's bad, I think you'd do well there.

Martell :for me it's the way you express yourself - with conviction. And the Byron poem, and the ideal house and home part.

I am voting you Martell. I can totally see the Targ votes, but your best and worst traits just push you to Martell. You have a passionate nature but you do not seem removed enough from the world of human beings to really secure your Targ-ness IMO. You are too strong on family and loyalty, not in a "respect our image" way but "don't fuck with the people I care about" way. BTW, “Vengeance. Justice. Fire & Blood.” <-- totally made of win.

I get the Targaryen vibes, but I have to agree with all the Martell votes. Based on comments I'd guess you were kind of hoping for/expecting Targaryen, but I think you'll fit right in Martell and probably like it.
