All About You
1. Describe your ideal house/home. Please go into as much detail as possible, and be sure to include your ideal geographical location in the description!.
Sydney, Darling Harbour. I would love to live in one of the highest buildings in Sydney. Not to feel above everyone or wealthy, but more to be able to see all the lights and life below my feet. Seeing the water from that height illuminated by the lights would be magical. The apartment wouldn’t have to be large, but with lots of windows to look out of. No balconies – I’m terrified of heights.
It would be mostly tile inside and sandstone walls. There would be plush rugs in front of an open fire and a big king bed with a canopy. The walls would have wall hangings on them. There would be a small enclosed garden in the middle of the house for my two dogs. I would have a library full of books with a ladder on a runner to reach the top shelves. The library would be the most occupied room with a couple of comfy sofas for lounging on. It would always be nice and warm inside and smell slightly of cinnamon biscuits cooking.
The bedrooms would have comfy hand made doonas and photos of loved one and places that I had been. Everything would feel warm and homely. There would be crocheted blankets on the backs of the chairs around the house. The meals room would have the kitchen built into it and the dining table would be scarred from many generations eating at it. The main bathroom would have a big bathtub and shelves with candle wax dribbling off them.
2. Name three things you are afraid of. Explain.
Death Simply because I don’t know what will come next. I like planning everything out, something so mysterious and with no proven correct answer frightens me.
Being alone I’m at my best when I am with people, when I’m alone (not alone for a day, but when I’m without people that I feel I can turn to) I feel so small and insignificant that it tends to fill me with melancholy.
The Sun Sounds weird, but I hate the sun. I have very, very pale skin and every time I feel even slightly burned it feels like one more step towards sun cancers and eventual death, which leads me back to my first fear. (I feel so very morbid saying that)
3. Imagine you’re given the classic opportunity: a genie granting you three wishes. What would you wish for? Wishing for more wishes is not permitted!
To make my family comfortable I would wish for them to have comfortable homes, a lack of debts and be able to live comfortably for the rest of their lives. This is very important to me as I only have a very small family and have watched them struggle many times throughout the years. To see them be able to relax for even just a little while would make me a very happy person.
To have the gift of tongues I would then be able to travel the world and understand anyone. I would be able to speak to people without struggling to find the words and maybe have a better understanding of where I am through that.
To be able to heal people Of whatever ails them, whether it was a broken bone or a mental problem. I’d like to take their suffering away and allow them to have peace.
4. In your life so far, what accomplishment are you the most proud of? You can list more than one if you have trouble deciding. ;)
Buying my first home with my husband. My family hasn’t really ever been able to do that in the past and for the first time I’m going to be living in a home instead of a house. I was terrified of taking the step at first, being so very in debt and the possibility of one day losing it seemed to much to even think of, but I overcame my fears and took the plunge. I’m going to be able to provide a home for the future children I might like to have. My dogs can dig a hole in the backyard. And we’re finally going to be able to paint a room the colours we like. Anytime I manage to work past one of my fears I’m immensely pleased with myself.
5. Which of the following is most important to you: Love, Money, Knowledge, Family, Friendship, Adventure, or Pleasure? Which is the least important to you?
If I had to make a choice I would choose Love, Family and Friendship as the most important out of that list. Those three things all become tangled up for me as I love my friends and family deeply (although not as much as my husband). Often friends become part of my family, I have some friends who I would call my siblings. Then there are my dogs that my husband and I love like we would our own children. After that I would choose money and knowledge, because both can give a person stability and power. If I could, I would give knowledge and money to those I love to elevate them. Lastly there would be adventure and pleasure, which are both still important in my life, but I would give up both for my friends and family.
6. What's one quote (or passage, song lyric, etc.) that effectively describes you and your values?
blow the candles out
raise a glass to the night
let all the tension out
you've been wound up so tight
it's a tender trap to plan ahead all the time
if you measure the world by what you leave behind
The Metre – Powderfinger (an Aussie band)
I tend to be very highly strung and always planning ahead. My family and friends (and dogs) are my saving grace that keep me grounded and sane. Even though I’m so highly strung I love the feeling of being able to come home and let it all go for a few moments with the comfort of reading a book at home, leaning against Luke and having the pups pile onto me like a living blanket.
7. How do you manage your money? On that note, how important is money/financial security to you?
Not as well as I should. I budget, but find myself buying a lot of things that I probably don’t actually need. Financial security is incredibly important to me, but it always seems slightly out of reach.
8. Name (and elaborate on) some of your hobbies. What are your favorite things to do outside of school/the office?
Crochet I love the rhythm and pattern of crochet. It feels reassuring, reminds me of home and is lovely and warm in the cold climate where I live. It feels like I’m providing something real and I love giving my makings to friends and family imagining it keeping them warm as well. I love the texture of wool and choosing colours.
Tabletop Gaming I love my RPGing with all my mates. Wednesday nights is pizza, friends and fun. When I’m not playing with the group, it can just be myself and my husband. Playing something else allows me to release from everything that is building up and be whatever I need to be at the time; whether it’s a strong woman in control or a damsel in distress or a combination of the two.
Joss Whedon Nothing better then sitting down with a bit of Joss Whedon to watch. Even the slightly bodgy original Buffy movie. Joss Whedon productions make me laugh, cry and be horrified without feeling forced. I love that
9. Name (and elaborate on) your top three BEST and top three WORST qualities (personality-related, not physical).
Organiser I’m a born organiser. I can visualise the steps to get there and I love the thrill of something being done the way it needs to be. I love seeing the outcome. Mainly I love event organising. Trips, birthdays, anything. I’m a genius at making things go smoothly.
Loyal I’m loyal to my friends and family, to the ends and back. I’m there when they need me and make sure that if I can I will be helping them to achieve what they want and need (even if it is at the expense of me).
Problem solver Much like organising, I can visualise problems and find my way to solutions. I’m tireless and will keep working on a problem until it is solved.
Stubborn I tend to be pretty stubborn. Might be the red hair and the irish heritage, but it drives people around me a little crazy sometimes.
Naive I seem to get suckered into things pretty easily, even when the warning signs have been there. I guess I’m a little too trusting sometimes.
Impatient I hate waiting for anything. That’s one of the reasons that I love planning. It makes me feel like I have something before I actually do.
A Song of Ice and Fire Related
1.Who are your favorite three characters in the series?
Daenerys – I love that she is strong and open all at the same time. She has been a victim in the past of thinking with her head first, but she grew to be so in control of herself and what she has direct impact on. I adore the way she fell in love.
Asha Greyborn – Asha is just so very amazing in the way that she lives in a mans world, defying the norms while retaining all of her sexiness and appeal. She would have been a force to reckon with if she has have been able to claim her rightful power.
Olenna Redwyne – I can only hope to be as cunning and sharp at her age. To be on top of the game at her age is brilliant and she comes out with some of the cleverest dialogue.
2.Who are your least favorite three characters in the series?
Lysa Tully - Her crawling, wilful manner disgusts me. She is one of the characters in the books that made my skin crawl.
The Frey Family – Because who wouldn’t? The massacre is one of the moments in the series that I put the books down and almost didn’t pick it back up again.
Stannis Baratheon – Due to the way that he can allow people to commit horrors in his name.
3.#1 Favorite moment in all of ASOIAF so far?
When Jamie lost his hand. It was the beginning to the redemption of his character. Some of my favourite moments are between him and Brienne as he begins to find a kinder and more just part of his personality.
4. In your dream-world, how would you like to see the series end?
Daenerys and Jon fight back the wights, saving the lands. The wildlings are allowed in. Daenerys takes over with the help of the Martells, Tyrells and what is left of the Starks.
