All About You

1. Describe your ideal house/home. Please go into as much detail as possible, and be sure to include your ideal geographical location in the description!.

Right now the place I wish I could live the most would be Marin County -- it's tucked in the redwoods, is close to the ocean, but also has San Francisco within easy striking distance. I'd love the kind of house that goes with that locale as well, modern but timeless, with redwood siding and lots of light and very clean lines inside but warmth too. Also with little cosy pockets around the place, like a little office with a window seat and cute vintage prints and shabby chic textiles and quirky '50s furniture. I like being close to "civilization" (especially a big city with lots of culture and beautiful architecture like San Francisco) without living in a traditional suburban or urban neighborhood. Let's just say that my favorite parts of SF and NYC are their famous parks.

2. Name three things you are afraid of. Explain.

Sharks -- big, scary, brainless, and will chomp you from below. The last part is especially important, since I'm terrified of deep water (even the 12' end of a pool) because you don't know what's underneath you.

Having to really put myself out there and sell myself. A job interview is my worst nightmare.

Zombies. Used to be vampires, but there's, you know, garlic and getting in your own house and stakes and crosses and holy water and all that. But zombies never stop! There are so many of them! They're hard to kill. Shaun of the Dead is the only zombie movie I can watch and even that gets a little too creepy at the end. Being trapped and knowing it's only a matter of time until this inexorable tide of monsters breaks in and eats you... ::shudder::

3. What is your favorite aspect of your physical appearance and why?

When it behaves, I like my curly hair very much. Also I feel like my face has nice, regular, sort of classical features.

4. If you could change one thing about your physical appearance, what would you change and why?

Beyond the obvious "weight" (screw you, western patriarchy), I wish I had more striking coloring. My eyes are hazel and my hair is just plain brown, and I'd love to have brighter colored eyes and darker or lighter hair.

5. Imagine you’re given the classic opportunity: a genie granting you three wishes. What would you wish for? Wishing for more wishes is not permitted!

The obvious financial wish: just enough money to buy the house above and travel and go out to dinner and the movies and buy books and nice clothes and and fancy yarn. I like my low-key life, and only wish I could afford the little luxuries without having to, you know, work for a living.

Except, perversely, I would love a job writing for a good sitcom (Arrested Development, Office, 30 Rock, etc.) Since they're hard to come by, a genie would be required, I think.

Athletic skills in a very intense area like gymnastics or figure skating. I'd love to do a backflip on a beam or pull out a triple axel -- something about that bodily freedom and power really appeals to me.

6. In your life so far, what accomplishment are you the most proud of? You can list more than one if you have trouble deciding. ;)

I just got out of a grueling three years of post-undergrad school and even though I don't think I'm going to work in the field (!!!) just getting out with acceptable grades and not quitting is something I will always be proud of.

7. Which of the following is most important to you: Love, Money, Knowledge, Family, Friendship, Adventure, or Pleasure? Which is the least important to you?

It's really kind of a combination of several, but I think I'll go with Friendship, even though it's mixed with love. Friends are extremely important to me, and my husband and I have a strong emotional bond that's less romantic love and just more of an automatic partnership. I don't need romance and big declarations, but to be around people I care about and who care about me.

Adventure is probably the least-important to me -- although I don't mind having it, I don't actively seek it out.

8. What's one quote (or passage, song lyric, etc.) that effectively describes you and your values?

I just spent forever trying to find this one quote that I swear is by W.E.B. DuBois and is about there being no point to hiding your light under a bushel just to make other people feel less insecure, and that the whole world benefits if everyone does their very best and lets their light shine through. (If anyone has any idea what this quote actually is, please let me know!) I can't always live by it, but it really speaks to me.

9. How do you manage your money? On that note, how important is money/financial security to you?

Terribly. It just seems to slip away on all those little luxuries. Like I said, I just want to be able to do or buy things that I like, not buy designer clothes or a Miami beach house.

10. Name (and elaborate on) some of your hobbies. What are your favorite things to do outside of school/the office?

I write fanfic (mostly in The Office fandom, though I've been in a million others), and read it too. I'm a very avid knitter and love playing with beautiful yarn, making beautiful things, and having a skill I've practiced and learned. I watch a lot of indie and comedy movies and TV shows like Buffy and Farscape, read very widely, and love hiking, the cold northern California beaches, and taking in "culture" things when I'm in the mood for them like dance or art or theater (not mainstream musicals like Wicked, though). I also play Lord of the Rings Online, which is an MMO like World of Warcraft but appeals to me much more because the storyline is strong, the graphics are beautiful, and the people tend to be older, nicer, politer, and just more fun.

11. Name (and elaborate on) your top three BEST and top three WORST qualities (personality-related, not physical).

Of the good: I know everyone thinks they've got a good sense of humor, but I really do feel like I'm funny and amuse people both in conversation and writing. I'm insightful and good at talking through things with people (psych major, decided grad school was too much of a pain and that the world had enough MFTs). I really do mean well all the time and want other people to be happy (maybe at my own expense).

Of the bad: Procrastination/hibernation from things I don't want to deal with. Sometimes I talk too fast and too much about myself and don't let other people get in a word edgewise. Sometimes I don't take responsibility for things I probably should and get too defensive.

A Song of Ice and Fire Related

1.Which is your favorite book of the series so far? What about your least favorite?
I'm a total dork and choose Storm of Swords because I love the stuff with Brienne and Jaime, plus the big battle scenes and Tyrion being awesome. But I tend to view the series as a whole since I read all four books over a short period of time in summer of 2006. Least favorite was probably Feast for Crows just because I miss a lot of perspectives.

2.Who are your favorite three characters in the series?
Brienne, Tyrion, annnnd maybe Sam.

3.Who are your least favorite three characters in the series?

I understand a lot of the things that Cersei faces as a powerful woman in a patriarchal society, but I still don't like her or her choices. Arya used to be cool and now is just sort of boring and tough. And I am not a fan of either Clegane brother.

4.#1 Favorite moment in all of ASOIAF so far?
Tyrion killing his father. Totally unexpected and hardcore.

5. In your dream-world, how would you like to see the series end?
Queen Dany. Amen.

Also, Jaime/Brienne, the Stark children reunited and living quietly in the North and getting over some of the awful scars they must have, Tyrion as the Hand, and, weirdly, Cersei being released and able to find some peace, maybe as the head of the Lannister family in Lannisport. I don't like her, but I also don't like how she's been pushed into this really evil character because she isn't allowed the things she wants, like political power. (I know, why do I want a happy ending for a character I don't like? I'm an underdog-supporter, I guess.)

I'm debating between Stark and Tully, you have a lot of the markers the tow of them share, selflessness, groundedness, but for now, at least, I think you're more of a Tully because of your mention of defensiveness -- definitely a big Tully trait imo -- and also how you wanted to live close to the city, I think the Tullies are fairly urbane, at least compared to the Starks.

Yup, Tully.

Tyrell

[identity profile] regendy.livejournal.com 2008-12-24 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm... this might seem weird given that you listed putting yourself out there as one of your greatest fears, but I can see you as a particularly laid-back Tyrell. You appreciate art and culture, you appreciate (and like to make) pretty things, and--the thing that seemed most Tyrellish to me--you like your MMO in part because the people are nicer and more polite. And regarding your favorite quote, Tyrells are all about letting their lights shine.

I'm gonna say Tully because I get this nurturing, Catelyn-esque vibe from you. There's also your defensive nature & emphasis on close friends. And knitting is something I could totally see Catelyn doing.

There was something reminiscient of Catelyn in your application, and even if she did adapt some Stark qualities, I think that the ones you share are from Tully. The rest of your application only confirms that belief for me: Tully for you.

Woo, you work fast. I'm glad to see you here. And from this, I definitely see the Tully, like the others said.

Stark

Go directly to Tully. Do not pass go, do not collect two hundred gold dragons, but please do say o hai to the Blackfish for me. >_>

Stark

Aww your description of your relationship with your husband kind of reminds me of Ned and Cat. They're friends, not dramatically in love. Tully.

Torn between Tyrell and Tully ... Talking about yourself and sometimes not taking responsibility is not very Tully (certainly not very Catelyn), I think your opinion on Arya is more Tyrell ... but a lower key life is more Tully than Tyrell, also what you say about not needing big romantic declarations. I agree with the majority that overall Tully fits best though you could be a more laid back Tyrell like [livejournal.com profile] regendy says.

I actually think you're a Tyrell. Not sure why exactly, but it seems to fit to me. Your appearance, best traits, and favorite characters were all kind of Tyrell-ish.

[identity profile] liaku.livejournal.com 2008-12-24 06:55 am (UTC)(link)
I think I'll swing with the minority in backing the Tyrell vote. The vibe just seems more rose than fish to me.

Not Stark, because you like too much luxuries :-)

I am really in a hurry because of all Christmas stuff, but if you want me to elaborate feel free to ask and I will gladly do so. :)

I have to agree with the others - I see a Tully here.

I can see how people are a bit torn between Tyrell and Tully, but I do think that Tully wins out.

Tully for the reasons already stated by the others. Not Others, others!

Tully. I can see the Tyrell as well, but you're too honest and have too sober desires for them. Although the Riverlands sounds most like the kind of place you love - close enough to civilisation, but with its own vibe of nature.

*waves from San Francisco*

Like a few others, I saw both the Tyrell and Tully aspects, and I do think that Tully is the stronger vibe. I do feel like your wishes are rather more Tyrell than Tully, but the general low-keyed-ness and tendency to favor underdogs among the characters feels more Tully overall.
