All About You

1. Describe your ideal house/home. Please go into as much detail as possible, and be sure to include your ideal geographical location in the description!.
I have two ideal homes (I'm allowed to be greedy in my fantasies, kthx). The first would be a swanky loft apartment right on the top level of a very high apartment building, in the center of the of Manhattan. I don't really care for the things inside the apartment, so long as its spacious and nice and has all the creature comforts. The apartment needs to have a nice big balcony overlooking the city, so that at night I can go out and have a sip of wine and look at all the twinkling lights underneath me. It's important that this apartment is in NYC and not anywhere else. Even though I don't live there (currently), NYC has always held a special place in my heart. I truly and sincerely believe it is the best city on Earth, a place where you can find anyone and anything from any country. I'm a city girl to the bone, and i love diversity, culture, bright lights and big fucking skyscrapers, and NYC has got the best of them! So to live in a high-rise expensive apartment in the middle of Manhattan? YES PLEASE!

Now, I do also find nature very therapeutic, so to escape the fast-paced city life I'd like to have a second home in the countryside. I'm thinking like a cottage tucked away in the fairy-tale-esque woods (but the good, green woods, not the scary woods with the witches and wolves!) Possibly in the English or French countryside.

2. Name three things you are afraid of. Explain.
1) I have an irrational fear of worms. Or any kind of worm-like thing: maggots, caterpillars, snails...just ughghgh. I'm very sure it's a real phobia and not just one of those things people say when asked what their fears are like "heights." Yes, everyone is afraid of falling off of great heights, but is it a real phobia? Most cases, doubt it. However, my fear of wormy things is definitely real...I can't even stand to look at pictures of them.
2) Loss of control -- I'll feel alright with any given situation (even a shit one) if I feel I have some manner of influencing the outcome. In situations where I know i have none, I am filled with instant dismay and anxiety. To watch something horrible unfold before your eyes and being helpless to do anything about it...terrible sense of helplessness in that, and I don't like feeling helpless.
3) Failure -- probably biggest fear out of them all. Most of my specific fears tie into this -- the fact that if such and such happens, it will have meant that I've failed in some way. I do not like failure and see it as a weakness, even though intellectually I know that every one makes mistakes and there are some things you just can't control -- even so, I can't help but feel a great self-loathing whenever I feel like i've failed at something.

3. What is your favorite aspect of your physical appearance and why?
I get alot of compliments on my skin. People have said that I have a very fair, creamy complexion. I don't notice much about the complexion, but I do appreciate the fact that I almost never have acne, even when I was a teenager. I don't even have a skin care regimen and yet my skin always is clear and smooth and nice. Also, the fact that I seem to always stay the same color -- I don't really tan and no one has ever seen me blush. This is good as I have also managed to avoid the dreaded Asian Glow -- the phenomena of drunk Asians getting bright bright red.

4. If you could change one thing about your physical appearance, what would you change and why?
I would have liked to be taller. Even though I am average height for an Asian woman (5 foot 2) in a perfect world I'd be around 5'7. I'd like to be able to tower over (some) people for once, and not have to feel so small all the time. (Wow, shades of Tyrion much? :P)

5. Imagine you’re given the classic opportunity: a genie granting you three wishes. What would you wish for? Wishing for more wishes is not permitted!
1) I can eat whatever I want, however much I want withought gaining any weight! :)
2) Ability to control time -- oh man, I'd use this power to procrastinate so much you have no idea... I'd also use this power to rewind back to mistakes I've made and correct them (ie cheat) with foresight! And fastforward boring or painful moments (waiting in lines, dentist...) And pause during exams to go look up answers :)
3) be some sort of creative genius. I've always admired creativelly inclined people and one of my biggest regrets is that I didn't cultivate any artistic or creative talents I might have had the potential for. It would be great if I could wake up one day and be able to play multiple instruments or sew up something haute couture. There's no feeling in the world like the one you get when you create.

6. In your life so far, what accomplishment are you the most proud of? You can list more than one if you have trouble deciding. ;)
Living a whole year abroad in England, when I had never even been outside of the States before. Going there not knowing a soul, and how at the end I had made a little life for myself there, with awesome people and awesome memories. I always loved traveling before that but now I think I've contracted a major case of wanderlust. It made me realise I can go anywhere in the world I want, and I'll be OK. Next stop, Hong Kong! :)

7. Which of the following is most important to you: Love, Money, Knowledge, Family, Friendship, Adventure, or Pleasure? Which is the least important to you?
Knowledge is the most important to me, becuase I am a big fat nerd. I honestly think most of the evils in the world come from stupidity and ignorance. And I define knowledge as not just book smarts, but learning of any kind. Learn skills, learn languages, learn empathy, learn selflessness. If more people would just think for themselves and not just have societal values and norms cornfed to them by others -- the world would be (if not a better place) a much more interesting one!
Adventure is also pretty high up there. Going abroad has really opened my eyes -- the world is the WORLD -- it's not your computer, it's not your bedroom, it's not your school, it's not your hometown and it's not even your country. You could go anywhere in the world and there are SO many things to see and SO many people to meet and SO many different stories to hear!
I'd probably rate Pleasure last -- mostly because it is associated with all of the other options already -- and yes, pleasure is fun, but on it's own it will leave you feeling empty and hollow after.

8. What's one quote (or passage, song lyric, etc.) that effectively describes you and your values?
I don't believe a person can be boiled down to a handy song lyric or few spare sentences. Life's too complex.

9. How do you manage your money? On that note, how important is money/financial security to you?
I guess i'm luckier than others in that money has never really been an issue for me. My finances are pretty much taken care of by my family and so I don't think about money all that much... That's not to say that I go needlessly spending it or that I drive around in a Mercedes. I just know that if I need it, the money's there.

10. Name (and elaborate on) some of your hobbies. What are your favorite things to do outside of school/the office?
I love love loooove traveling. I have a bit of wanderlust :P I am usually scheming some way or other to spend large amounts of time abroad. I love going to new places and observing the different cultures, eating the different foods and meeting the people there. Not only is it incredibly exciting, but its also very gratifying to see how different people live their lives and how despite the enormously different ways we seem to live, we are all basically so alike in the end.

I'm currently planning to visit a former flatmate in Japan, study in Hong Kong for the summer, and make a return trip to England sometime this year. I really recommend going abroad for anyone -- just do it once and you'll be hooked, i promise!

I also like going to gigs, getting a bit tipsy and dancing crazily much to the annoyance of the people standing behind me :P I just went to see CSS on Monday and it was one of the best gigs I've ever been to. I realise that, being an atheist, music is the closet thing to a religion that i have. I certainly feel like i experience religious ecstasy at gigs, anyway!

11. Name (and elaborate on) your top three BEST and top three WORST qualities (personality-related, not physical).
Best:
1) sense of humor -- it might not seem like it throughout this long-ass application but I'd like to think i'm quite funny. Well, it might not seem like it EVER but i swear, I have my moments... :P
2) Intellect -- One of the things I draw confidence from -- the (possibly wrong) belief that I'm a pretty well-educated and intelligent person. Of course we all have those moments where we feel horribly inferior to someone else's knowledge and accomplishments, but then I go to a bar in Pacific Beach and immediately feel more evolved by comparison.
3) Good listener -- I'm one of those friends that you call up when something disastrous happens and you need someone talk to or you need advice about something. I'm not generally talkative unless a topic REALLY interests me, so I make a much better listener. Most times I find that a sympathetic audience is all that's needed to feel better about something.

Worst:
Confidence -- I wish i had more. I know that I have alot of worthwhile traits and they shine through when i'm with my friends, but around new people it all seems to go to poof.
Easily jeaous -- I really need to stop comparing myself to other people, but somehow it always ends up happening...
Easily stressed/anxious -- I just need to chill out sometimes. I'm working on it.

A Song of Ice and Fire Related

1.Which is your favorite book of the series so far? What about your least favorite?
ASOS kicked ass! The book with the most action, with all of the old favorites (Arya, Bran etc) and some new ones ("My name is Jaime!" Damn straight, it is!) Also, holy unpredictable plot twists, batman! (Spoilers!) The death of not one, not two, but THREE freakin' kings? Not to mention two Tully chicks...

Least favorite has got to be AFFC. Ironborn? Dorne? I DON'T CARE. Who are all these new characters and why can't we just read about the already established ones with the unresolved plot lines?!? Methinks GRRM got a little too greedy with the size and scope of these books...

2.Who are your favorite three characters in the series?
Jaime!! This is why I think GRRM is one of the best authors out there. He made me hate Jaime as per AGOT and ACOK, then he turned it all around and made me LOVE him in ASOS and AFFC. Why are my feelings like so much putty in your hands, GRRM, that you can shape them any way you please?? Plus, I think Jaime might be my perfect man -- gorgeous, intelligent and funny as hell. Twincest gets him minus points though. Bad Jaime!

Brienne -- Yes I ship Jaime/Brienne! I can identify with her as an outsider and as someone who also struggles with problems of confidence. Even though we all know she's got so many awesome things about her -- like the fact that despite being a woman, she just might well be in one of the best fighters in the South American-sized continent that is Westeros! And she's such a good person deep down too, one of the few genuine heroic characters of this series. I just hope she survives and gets a little bit grayer. (All honor and no play makes Brienne a maiden stay!)

Hmm..hard one...Bran I guess. I want him to take a level in badass and come back from the North all warg-ed out and kick some ass! If there's ever a Jaime vs Bran showdown though...well, I think that will suck big time for me (knowing GRRM, he will fuck them both up.)

3.Who are your least favorite three characters in the series?
Annoyingly enough, the two characters I hate most are also the two that GRRM (and many many fans) seem to dote the most on: Dany and Tyrion.

Dany is just...ugh. Closest thing we have to a Mary Sue in the books (real damn close, in fact!) She's the prettiest, most awesomest 15 year old girl ever, and she's going to be Queen because she freed all those slaves, and is it her fault that they would rather remain slaves JUST FOR HER instead of being free after all? And she's going to conquer the shit out of Westeros, don't you doubt her, or she'll exile you! You know, even though she's never actually LIVED THERE or have even SEEN it and will basically be a foreign conqueror. But that's what her ancestors did right? And they had those magical MacGuffins dragons and now she has some too! Dracarys!

Tyrion would have been alright, if not for the fact that I can't help but see him as a GRRM insert now. and the fact that GRRM loves writing Tyrion some dirty ass dwarf sex scenes, with unncessary mention of boob grabbage, nipple twisting and dwarf peen. Combine this with author insert and all I get from Tyrion's chapters is GRRM writing himself into some fantasy-land pr0n. Dwarf sex aside, alot of people find Tyrion funny but I just find him snarky and emo as hell. It's one thing to be snippy and sarcastic to a few douchebag characters who deserve it, but Tyrion's a snarky sarcastic ass to EVERYONE -- including poor old Pod, who clearly has no clue how to handle it. I've met a few people like this in real life -- people whose automatic pilot is on sarcastic ass no matter what issue you're trying to discuss -- and believe me, if they feel emo about why people just don't like them -- well, it's because you're a constant snarky sarcastic ass, that's why.

Third character...these third characters are always so hard! I hate alot of characters after these two equally. Melisandre, Aeron Greyjoy, Petyr because he's a just a Fiendish Devil....but I give this spot to YGRITTE. "You know nothing, Jon Snow." Oh really? I know you like to keep saying that one line. Over and over. And over and over. And over and over some more. We get it, Jon is pretty but dumb as hell. I know! Now please, shut the hell up.

4.#1 Favorite moment in all of ASOIAF so far?
"Ser Jaime? What are you doing here?"
"Something stupid."
SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEE! :)

5. In your dream-world, how would you like to see the series end?
Call me a masochist, but I really hope the Others win. Everyone (well everyone worth caring about) dies, Winter makes Westeros a frozen continent, the long-ass night is here, bitches! I would really like that, because happy endings with the Big Bad defeated and everything nicely resolved always rang very artificial and took me out of the story. It makes me go "oh yeah, that was just a story" because in real life, the "good guys" usually don't win. I don't want ALL hope sqaushed though, I hope there are a few survivors left out there to try to fight the good fight (possible sequel set-ups :P). But no happy endings, GRRM. Please do not let Dany into Westeros where, together with Jon and Tyrion, they all three ride on their stupid fucking dragons to defeat the Others, one of the dragons cry fire tears onto Tyrion's legs and he magically grows into a 6 foot 3 handsome Lannister man, Dany and Jon fuck and have violet-eyed babies who play the harp really well and Dany and Jon rule the Seven Kingdoms as King and Queen of Puppies and Joy forever and ever amen. No. Just....no.

There are some Starkish traits, like your impatience with Tyrion and pessimistic view of happy endings ("winter is coming!") but the love of knowledge and adventure and travel remind me of Oberyn and Doran and Sarella, so, Martell.

Lannister! Especially the bit about not having to worry about money because you've got a lot already! In general, I think you actually came off as pretty confident, despite the fact that you said lack of confidence was one of your weakpoints. And very opinionated and courageous as well (well, I think going to a country not knowing anyone is pretty courageous). That makes me think Lannister.

I take back my previous vote, I'm going to go with Targaryen after all -- intellect, creativity, knowledge, disliking being in control, liking the high life, a little outside-the-box thought in your last answer, and there were some Targs with wanderlust like Alysanne and such.

I don't think you're Lannister because a Lannister would rarely admit they lack confidence, if it were at all an issue in the first place.

I'm voting Martell and it's completely a gut feeling. Apologies for the lack of explanation; it's 3am. :P

I see some Jaime-like Lannister in you, but the overall feeling is Martell. I think it fits the wanderlust and ranking knowledge first and adventure pretty high, and your first two best traits. Plus the overall vibe just feels right for Martell.

You're a Targaryen, ambitious, intellectual, with issues about control and anxieties. You come across as more confident than you seem to be too, which also makes me think about Targ.

Dammit, it's hard to tell. The love for knowledge and travel say either Martell or Targaryen to me, but eventually, I think you're a Lannister who knows what empathy is - like Jaime or Kevan.

I'll forgive you for hating Littlefinger because I was out of my chair cheering for you with your Dany rants there. COULD NOT POSSIBLY AGREE MORE! You rule for saying it so well.

And actually, I hesitantly agree with you about Tyrion, too, in fact. I still quite like him because I remember how he captured me in the first book, but Martin just likes him too much and it becomes progressively more obvious as things go on. I wouldn't quite agree that he's a self insert ... but it comes pretty close.

Anyways, you're a very, very close match between a Lannister and a Martell, to me, with a bit of Targaryen lurking at the edges.

And now I've been sitting here staring at this app and comment for three minutes (no joke) and I'm just going to vote you into Lannister for now and may change my mind later, for the simple reason that while I think the content is 50-50 either way, the tone is very Lannister to me. You sound like Jaime.

And I think you're a lot more confident than you think you are :)

Well, you may completely hate Dany, but I have to go with Targaryen. Besides, I think a lot of the other (dead) Targaryens would have a special hatred for Dany as well. She is far too righteous for them, which seems to be one of your major complaints.

I was torn between Martell, Tagaryen, Tyrell, Greyjoy, Lannister, and Stark. Wow, I guess I don't think you're a Tully! :-) Martell was my strongest feeling, but then I realized that despite your love of adventure, travel, and knowledge, you weren't into the Dorne part of AFFC and even though you live in San Diego, you seem like you'd be happier living farther... north. But not in a Stark kind of way. Haha, I don't know if this is making sense.

Anyway, I'm going with Lannister for your humor and and fear of failure plus not liking not being in control. Even though you say you aren't confident, I think it took a lot of confidence to go to England the way you did. Sort of like the whole ' "Can a man be brave when he's afraid?" "That's the only time a man can be brave." ' thing. Ooo, now you're reminding me of Bran. :) Actually, the more I think about it, you seem like you have a lot in common with Bran. @_@ Still going with Lannister for the vote though. :-)

P.S. Loved your Brienne poemy thingy!

You chose the same favorite moment as I did! :D (I don't 'ship' them - I don't ship anyone - but I love that scene.)

Also, Dany's barren, so no worries about the violet-eyed babies. I suppose House Targaryen must die with her. ...Hadn't really thought about that till now, actually. Interesting.

Like the others, I see a lot of the more fiery houses in you - Lannister, Martell, and Targaryen. But I don't think you're...out there enough to be a Targaryen. You have broad ambition, yes, but it's very sane and controlled. :) Between the final two choices, I name you a Martell. Their words seem to describe the you I got a sense of while reading your application. Plus, wanderlust can't really be ascribed to any of the other great houses, so there you go.

I'm going with Martell. You actually reminded me quite a bit of Oberyn in his traveling phase as well as Sarella. The Martells are the only great house that really has contact with the Free Cities & gives a damn about cultures outside of Westeros. Your wish for people to think for themselves alspo echoes the Dornish since they're the odd ones out in Westeros because they have their own distinct culture & ways of doing things. Finally, you ranked knowledge & adventure highly which definitely reminds me of Sarella.

And you hate Dany/Jon! Yay! I'll forgive your Dany hate just for that!

The reason why we didn't include House Baratheon is that although Renly and Robert have some similar traits Stannis is so different that it throws us for a loop. We felt we would need more evidence to really sort a Baratheon. Although trust me, it is a favorite house of many members and the subject of many an icon and fic ;)

Gutsy love of life combined to creative vibes and w00ts. You don't sound like the basic Martell as opposed to a more light-hearted or toned one, but you don't sound entirely like a Targaryen either since Martell was the first thought coming to mind. No, not (M) for the adventure stuff, that's not it, just something else. Plus I see the sense in what Pojypojy says, too, damn.

Anyway, I think you're a Martell. You've got their sense of adventure and wit, but what really did it for me was the fear of helplessness. From what we've seen of the Martells, they reaaaally don't do well when they aren't able to act.

I got to this part and - please don't hate me - Daeron from "The Hedge Knight" traipsed into my head. You know, Egg's incredibly intoxicated brother. I hope we can still be friends after this. Hahaha. I know it's bad to compare people to a drunk dude when you're supposed to be sorting them, but... he's actually a pretty likable dude in the story! I thought he was funny and self-deprecating and he had confidence issues and he compared himself to his brothers... speaking of whom, you kinda remind me of them too (well, not Aerion LOL). You have Egg's thirst for knowledge and eagerness to see the world, and Aemon's empathy and fear of helplessness. And the duality of the two ideal homes, and the desire for creative genius? Where there's smoke, there's Targaryen. One of the more laid-back, less wrath-y dragons, I think.
