All About You
1. Describe your ideal house/home. Please go into as much detail as possible, and be sure to include your ideal geographical location in the description!.
My ideal house would be a gutted castle. If “castles” were a genre, it would probably be my favorite, so the aesthetic would please me mightily. Rooms would include a state-of-the-art in-home cinema where I would watch hours of television and American football. I would have a room filled with costumes and probably would hire an on-sight seamstress.
“Lacey,” I would call her, despite how much I hate puns. “I need a costume for the Ninjas vs. Pirates party next month. I’m thinking a pirate with ninja-patterned clothing, like a corset with throwing stars on it. Use your imagination. I’m off to the heated springs in the next room!”
I would have some sort of stage in my castle where I would invite comedy troupes and touring musicals to come perform (my neighbors are always invited, of course). I would have an on-sight brewery that almost exclusively brews IPAs because everyone knows those are the best type of beer. My bedroom would include four types of sleeping surfaces because I LOVE sleep, and at least eight screens with which to absorb media because I have a problem. All my fixings would be purple because I love the color so much.
I would hire a cook that would design my kitchen based on her needs and her priority would be finding ways to make cheese-based dishes healthy. I would have a room filled with kittens.
I would have a sprawling enclosure where I took in wolves that other silly humans tried to raise as pets (not pandering to the Starks, wolves have been my favorite animal since before I can remember!)
For the romance of it I’d like to believe I’d want my castle to be somewhere in the mountains and/or the woods, where it snows just the right amount in the winter and has charming summers for a designated amount of months, but I have yet to find Camelot so I’ll settle with a place that favors warmth over cold (I do love seasons, though. Nothing like football weather in the fall. Also a great time for beer).
2. Imagine you’re given the classic opportunity: a genie granting you three wishes. What would you wish for? Please be as elaborate as you can. Wishing for more wishes is not permitted!
My selfish 3 wishes:
-be as universally attractive/hot as possible and never have to diet or exercise.
-be discovered for my comedy writing skillz thus entering me into the entertainment industry and genre-busting everything in sight
-piles and piles and piles of money
My passionate 3 wishes:
-Expose/force understanding of the severity of institutionalized and systemic oppression of the non-privileged to everyone in the world, especially people belonging to these groups: white, male, cisgendered, straight, able-bodied, colonizers, wealthy.
-Eliminate humans’ abilities to hierarchize arbitrary difference (see above).
-Eliminate religion from the minds of humans and make them start over with the divine.
3. In your life so far, what accomplishment are you the most proud of? Why? You can list more than one if you have trouble deciding. ;)
Gosh. I feel like I haven’t accomplished much in this life, honestly. I suppose in High School I cowrote a full length musical that was performed at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts but I was displeased with a lot of the process and final product. So… graduating college? Is that a cliché? Landing a partner who loves me even (especially) when I hate myself? (ugh so dramatic).
My real answer is: one time I pooped in the ocean.
4. Which of the following is most important to you: Love, Money, Knowledge, Family, Friendship, Adventure, or Pleasure? Which is the least important to you? Please explain why for each choice.
My inner-hedonist is urging me to say pleasure, but if I’m being honest it’s probably knowledge. I am confident in my intelligence and I love learning. I feel accomplished when I can say I actually changed my mind about something with study and consideration. A lot of this love of knowledge manifests itself in obsession (hello 3 rereads of A Song of Ice and Fire in less than a year) so it can be a dangerous thing for me.
The least important for me is money, no question. I hate how much our society is driven by an insatiable greed for more, more, more of what ultimately doesn’t matter. Of course I’m a realist so I know practically this viewpoint gets me nowhere. I just wish money wasn’t important to me (or anyone really).
5. What's one quote (or passage, song lyric, etc.) that effectively describes you and your values? Explain.
deny me bread, air,
light, spring,
but never your laughter
for I would die.
-Pablo Neruda, “Your Laughter”
I like-a do the jokes. I do improv comedy regularly and I write funny things. My whole life the only constant is that I’ve wanted to make people laugh. If I couldn’t do that, I would be despondent. The anxiety in my head tells me I go too far, I’m too loud, obnoxious, outlandish—but even my powerful she-brain can’t stop me from trying to make others guffaw.
6. How do you manage your money? On that note, how important is money/financial security to you? Go into as much detail as you can.
I manage my money… semi-poorly to okay. I like buying things on the internet, especially things I don’t need more of, like clever t-shirts. At the end of the month I pay for what I need to pay for, but savings is almost foreign concept (I blew through my last nest egg on a Cersei costume for Halloween… sigh). My significant other/roommate is a nurse and we live together, so I don’t have to stress about basic things I can’t afford (I send him half my paycheck every month and he handles all our finances). Plus my parents have always been very supportive when it comes to things like insurance/school.
Money/financial security I see as a necessary evil. I think because I’ve always grown up with it (rich[ish] white parents) I probably have a nonchalance about financial security that most people in this world aren’t afforded. I literally don’t know what life is like without it, so how can I confidently say I could do without it?
7. Name (and elaborate on) some of your hobbies. What are your favorite things to do outside of school/the office?
Outside of the office, I watch (/binge on) a lot of tv. I internet quite vigorously as well (tumblr, facebook, reddit). I listen to asoiaf on audiobook and I drink beers (and, er, other things) with my friends. I love watching football, especially my alma mater the Ohio State University Buckeyes and my ever-frustrating Baltimore Ravens.
If I’m feeling adventurous I might go hiking or even exercise a bit. I tutor kids in reading and writing every week.
I love lounging with my boyfriend, it’s one of my favorite things. We also like to travel across the wide state of Ohio, to Seattle where my sister lives, to the Washington, DC area where I grew up (in the USA). I like beach-y places and ski-y places although I haven’t been to either in a long while.
8. Name three things you are afraid of. Explain.
I. Unexpected loud noises - no idea why, I've always been like this. Popping balloons drop me to the floor, fireworks make me cry. When I was in the womb, my parents went a baseball game and my mom said they needed to leave because the baby didn't like the noise.
II. My boyfriend seeing me as I see myself - okay, we're venturing into drama territory again, but in the interest of honesty, this really terrifies me. I don't know how he loves me as much as he does. I don't know how he can turn my flaws into small inconsequential things, even virtues.
III. The bomb - I feel pretty confident that the things humans to do fuck things up for everything else on this planet, including the planet itself, will only hurt us in the long run (global pandemic, climate change, etc). I think Earth can snap back from just about anything, except the bomb. The United States has the capability to destroy the Earth dozens of times over, and that's terrifying!
9. Name (and elaborate on) your top three BEST and top three WORST qualities (personality-related, not physical). Please answer as fully as you can, as this is an important question.
BEST
I. I'm funny! Really, I am amusing, unless you suck/have no sense of humor/your sense of humor is bad or based in bigotry. I do whacky faces, voices, and poses. I'm sarcastic, snarky, and satirical. I'm clever and witty and self-deprecating.
II. I'm smart! It's kind of fucked up we're not supposed to admit this out loud, right? Why do we live in a society that demonizes those that consider themselves intelligent? I'll tell you right now folks, I got good grades (which is not really an indication of intelligence, but whatever) and I'm good at absorbing information and applying it. I write good and read fast!
III. I'm passionate! Often too much so. BUT! when it comes to being "radically" progressive, I don't back down. I will fight for human rights, equality and freedoms with my last breath, by the old gods and the new.
WORST
I. I'm judgmental. For how empathetic and compassionate I claim to be, I can be a real bitch about other people. Especially if I consider them to be less intelligent than me or shallow (of course, about things I'm not shallow about).
II. I'm obnoxious. I get loud and crude and I swear a whole lot. Outside of bigotry I don't have many things I won't talk about in gory detail--from poops to putting things up your poop chute (hehe).
III. I'm lazy. Oh gods am I lazy. I just don't get off my ass and do enough. I sit in front of a computer screen for way too many hours a day and I don't do anything productive with that time.
A Song of Ice and Fire Related
1.How many books from the series have you completed? 5 + the Dunk and Eggs
2.Who are your favorite three characters in the series? Why?
I. Jaime Lannister - I know, he's everyone's favorite, but I just LOVE his kinda sorta redemption arc and finding out just why he is the Kingslayer and how he's the HERO but everyone assumes he's the villain and his desperate, foolish love of his twin sister and his unassuming, innocent love of Brienne... it's just great.
II. Oberyn Martell - a badass, pansexual playboy who sacrificed himself for a sister decades dead? A man unafraid to stand up to the strongest powers in Westeros and possibly poison them to get revenge? C'mon.
III. Sansa - her progression throughout the books has been so freaking awesome, like an opposite-Cersei (who is also awesome, but I had to pick only 3 characters). I love Sansa the stupid little bird, I love Sansa the pensive captive, I love Sansa the alluring Alayne. I think she is the most poised to do amazing things in the upcoming books.
3.Who are your least favorite three characters in the series? Why?
(I'll go by POV, honestly I don't dislike anyone! THEY ARE ALL MY BABIES)
I. Tyrion? - his chapters in ADWD were... woof. I don't care. I liked his spiral downwards in ASOS and the thrilling conclusion was amazing, but... maybe it's his enormous privilege that he refuses to acknowledge? Maybe it's his inability to be compassionate until it's too late? He just rubs me the wrong way a lot of the time.
II. Areo Hotah - axe, axe, axe, Doran has gout, unnecessary POV x2.
III. Errrrr... ummmmmm... uhh.... Victarion? - He beat his wife to death and refuses to acknowledge he did so. But, I still definitely want to see what happens to him.
4.#1 Favorite moment in all of ASOIAF so far? Why?
Ygritte's death. It was so poignant and beautiful... if Jon had stayed with the Wildlings he would have felt dishonorable his whole life, if Ygritte had come with him he would have loved her less because she wouldn't be Ygritte. Their love story is one of the purest in the books. Despite Jon lying about his motives for joining the Wildlings, he never lies about how he feels about her. He knows it's not his arrow that killed her but it might as well be... the Nissa Nissa parallel, his last words to her, her last words to him... plus I always like a good cry.
5. In your dream-world, how would you like to see the series end, and why?
Okay, I know this is a cop-out, but I don't know! But, let's say: Others defeated, seven kingdoms split once again (maybe give the Tullys an eighth kingdom, poor Tullys) and the Starks are happy. Or! the smallfolk rise up and overthrow their overlords!
