All About You

1. Describe your ideal house/home. Please go into as much detail as possible, and be sure to include your ideal geographical location in the description!.

Oh, I want to live in a city! Not a huge metropolis, but a big city nonetheless and one with a rich a history. The city I currently live in is like that, and we have all these really old buildings which were built when the Habsburgs were rocking around this place and they all look great. I would love to live in such a building, because the rooms are huge and airy, with wide windows and with those very thick stone walls, the temperature is mostly constant there – cool in the summer and warmer in winter. I’d love dark wooden furniture and I would buy myself the biggest bed there is. Oh, and I’d have shelves everywhere, because I have a massive library and it just keeps getting bigger and bigger. Also, I’d probably need special, custom made closets, but no one buys clothes quite like me.

I need a place with seasons, of course, but not with huge variations of temperatures. My ideal weather is in the fall, where you have a combination of sun, wind and rain, but it’s never ridiculously hot or wet. I don’t like it when it’s too hot outside and I hate it when it rains. I’m fine with snow, but rain always puts me in a bad mood. Also, I need to live in a place where people embrace public transportation or bicycles, because I don’t really like cars and heavy traffic is one of the banes of my existence. Oh, and some place where there are shops nearby – I don’t want big malls and shopping centers, but I do want a city which has streets littered with little shops and cafes and ice cream parlors.

2. Imagine you’re given the classic opportunity: a genie granting you three wishes. What would you wish for? Please be as elaborate as you can. Wishing for more wishes is not permitted!

I want my family to be healthy, whole and happy. The thing I want most is to live a happy life and I don’t think I could ever be happy without knowing that what remains of my family is okay. I’ve lost people that were extremely important to me and that…sucks. If I can help it, I don’t want to go through that again.

I want the ability to time travel, and if that’s not available, I want to be able to travel the world. I’m passionate about history and about different cultures and I’d just want to go around and see how people used to live/how they live in other parts of the world.

I want to publish a novel. This one is pretty self explanatory. I’ve wanted to be a writer since I was 10, so of course I’d want the opportunity to publish my work.

3. In your life so far, what accomplishment are you the most proud of? Why? You can list more than one if you have trouble deciding. ;)

I’m proud of the fact that I managed to finish writing two novels, of the fact that I was always top of my class, of being the one that always knows the answer. I’m extremely proud that my friends and family always come to me first when they want help with something. I’m extremely proud that I’m going to university for free, because I got high enough grades to not have to pay for it. I’m proud of my writing. I don’t think I have one huge, great accomplishment that is special above all others.

4. Which of the following is most important to you: Love, Money, Knowledge, Family, Friendship, Adventure, or Pleasure? Which is the least important to you? Please explain why for each choice.

I think Family and Love would be most important.

I don’t have a big family – it’s just my parents, my grandmother and myself – but I’ve always loved them above all else. They’re annoying and they manage to get on my nerves all the time, but they also shaped me into the person I am today and for that I am grateful. I hope I’m going to be half the person my grandmother is at her age, because she rocks. Seriously. She’s one fierce lady, you guys. Also, they’re…you know, they always encouraged me to be myself, they respected me and my choices.

Also, love, but when I say love, I don’t mean romantic love. I’m the kind of person that believe that romantic love doesn’t last too much and I’ve never actually fallen in love before. However, I love my family and my friends and once you get under my skin, there’s no getting out from under there. I love myself – this sounds especially vain, but I can’t not say it. It took me such a long time to get over my issues with myself and finally being able to be comfortable in my own skin feels so very good.

The least important would be money. I think that money comes and goes. It’s relatively easy to make money and it ridiculously easy to spend it, so why bother running after something that doesn’t really stick around for much.

5. What's one quote (or passage, song lyric, etc.) that effectively describes you and your values? Explain.

“I discovered that my obsession for having each thing in the right place, each subject at the right time, each word in the right style, was not the well-deserved reward of an ordered mind but just the opposite: a complete system of pretense invented by me to hide the disorder of my nature. I discovered that I am not disciplined out of virtue but as a reaction to my negligence, that I appear generous in order to conceal my meanness, that I pass myself off as prudent because I am evil-minded, that I am conciliatory in order not to succumb to my repressed rage, that I am punctual only to hide how little I care about other people’s time. I learned, in short, that love is not a condition of the spirit but a sign of the zodiac.”

Gabriel Garcia Marquez – Memories of my Melancholy Whores

This is one of the passages that describes me pretty well. I’ve spent so much of my time trying to suppress my temper, trying to tame my stubbornness, trying to be sweet and kind and polite when I wanted to rage and shout and never talk to some people. The worst part was that I don’t even think I realized just how different I truly was from the way I acted and when I did realize that, I had a bit of a shock, so I sat myself down and decide that at least I need to find out who I am. Not quite there yet, but I’m on my way. At least I know what I’m not?

“Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall” – Confucius.

This is a cheating, yeah, but I felt I had to put this one as well. I’ve seen a lot of people succumb to the hardships of life and just letting bad things overwhelm them and I refuse to ever be one of those people. At the risk of being overly cliché, we only have one life – why let the weight of problems and negative feelings crush you? There’s always a way out of everything and luck does eventually change.

6. How do you manage your money? On that note, how important is money/financial security to you? Go into as much detail as you can.

Oh, money. I have to admit that I grew up a little spoiled. I’ve always had everything I wanted and my parents never really denied me anything. Also, I’ve learned that money comes as goes and it’s not really made to sit in your pocket. As a result, I sort of always want to spend the money I have. However, I am able to put money aside and I can control my natural impulse to buy, buy, buy.

Sometimes, after I come home with an empty wallet, I feel terribly guilty for spending all my money. I'm always on the look-out for bargains – this is both good and bad. I buy things cheaply, but I sometimes buy things that I don’t need just because they’re a great deal.

Financial security is not something I ever had to think about. It’s important, of course, I want to have enough money to live my life comfortably, but I don’t strive to obtain it. Also, I never, ever want to be the kind of person that just saves up money and doesn’t do anything with them and I would rather be poor than do something I don’t like just because it would make me rich.

7. Name (and elaborate on) some of your hobbies. What are your favorite things to do outside of school/the office?

Reading, watching movies and tv shows. These all sort of fit into the same category. I love stories and characters and exploring possibilities that I could never have in real life. Reading a book or watching a movie or a tv show are all the same thing to me, because I get to meet characters and fall in love with them.

Writing is another hobby and a passion. Again, I think it’s about getting to know characters and fleshing them out yourself. I love to write because it gives me the opportunity to create something and get the feel of how that would work out. Also, writing is a way put my own ideas and thoughts into order. I usually have about five or six different ideas about characters and plotlines running around in my head, so writing is an exercise in patience and attention to me as well.

I love make-up and as soon as I have the time, I’m going to take a make-up artist course. I love to experiment with new colors and to find out what suits me best and I think it’s great that you can always have a way to express your moods and feelings through make-up. I also think that make up is my war paint, because it makes me feel more confident. Sometimes, I hear people say that you shouldn’t wear make up to feel beautiful, but to me its quite the opposite – I only started using it when I started to feel comfortable with myself. I don’t use it to feel pretty, I use it when I feel pretty.

8. Name three things you are afraid of. Explain.

Loneliness. I can’t stand the thought of not having friends and loved ones around me. I’m not sure whether I need other people around me to feel safe and loved, but I don’t want to live without them. I want people who understand me and I want to know that I can share my life with someone.

Failure. I set high standards for myself and I’m very proud individual. I’m not afraid of disappointing other, but I am afraid of disappointing myself. I just don’t want to look in the mirror sometimes in the next twenty years and see that I have become someone I don’t like.

Spiders. Cockroaches. Bees. I can’t stand insects and I have had some pretty nasty experiences with them. I always have bug spray around to tackle them. [as a fun-yet-traumatic story: I have very thick, curly hair and I always wear it loose. When I was little, a bee once got caught in my hair. How is that possible? I don’t know, I just remember a bee buzzing away in my hair and tangling itself further in my curls.]

9. Name (and elaborate on) your top three BEST and top three WORST qualities (personality-related, not physical). Please answer as fully as you can, as this is an important question.

My best qualities?

I’m intelligent and observant. XD I’m the first one to understand a problem and I can work through all the possible solutions relatively fast. I have an eye for details and I put two and two together in an instant. Because of this I’m a fast learner and I’m great at reading people. I’ve been told that I’d be a great psychiatrist or a great con-man. I’m also well-read and very well-informed about various subjects. I can hold a conversation about anything from car engines to poetry, art and the opera. I have a great memory, so I always remember the details people tend to forget.

I’m creative and imaginative. I have a vast imagination and I come up with a theory for everything. I used to make jewelry and I still decorate my own clothes. I can come up with awesome ideas, but sadly, most of the times, they are just ideas – once they lose their novelty, I tend to lose interest in them, no matter how good I know they are.

I’m very open-minded and tolerant. I think people should have the freedom to decide things for themselves and as long as they don’t really do anything to hurt others, it’s all cool with me. Because I’m very stubborn about my own beliefs, I never try to change the way other people think. They’re much too personal and no one should ever try to enforce something like that.

My worst traits:

I’m extremely stubborn and proud. I only do what I want and I expect other people to respect that. I’m not going to get others to do what I want, but they shouldn’t try to get me to do something either. Sometimes, if I’m told I need to do something because it’s RIGHT, I’ll simply refuse to do it, even if I understand that maybe it’s the right thing.

I’m spoiled and selfish. I always got everything I ever asked for and no one really told me no. I’m not the kind of spoiled brat that NEEDS that pink car and I don’t have ridiculous expectations of people, but I expect to have people’s attention. Also, I ‘m very possessive of my things and of the people around me. If something is mine, I don’t want to think about sharing it with anyone else.

I’m a very calm individual and I get angry very hard, but once that happens, I’m like the Hulk. I’m very good at repressing anger, but sometimes it explodes and then I say awful things and even do awful things. It passes quickly and I don’t really hold a grudge, but I never really forget things. It’s easy for me to ignore things and even forgive them up to a point, but once I reach my limit, I turn into a vicious enemy.

A Song of Ice and Fire Related

1.How many books from the series have you completed?

All of them. I was reading A Feast for Crows and A Dance with Dragons while I was supposed to study for some Very Important, Once in a Lifetime exams and everyone kept asking me…”How’s your studying going?” “Fine, fine. I’m studying direwolves and knights.”

2.Who are your favorite three characters in the series? Why?

Catelyn is one of my favorite characters in the series. She’s such a wonderfully crafted character. She’s a mother and wife, but she’s so much more than JUST that. There are so few characters like Cat around – she’s smart and she has a type of strength that is real and present and subtle and she’s very brave. In a world where there are warriors and knights and lords that die running away, you have this woman who was never in combat, but dies fighting all the same. My Catelyn feelings are strong. XD

Asha Greyjoy. Oh, Asha. I love her so much, because she’s exactly the type of character I always need in fiction but I so rarely get to enjoy. She’s a strong badass warrior who isn’t hyper-sexualized or portrayed as frigid. She’s sexual and sexy, without using sex a weapon, she’s proud and smart and doesn’t cower in front of anyone. I just can’t understand how anyone can not adore Asha.

Sansa. I love Sansa because I think she’s the character that changed the most. No other character managed to grow so much and change, even though she still has the same basic characteristics. I love how adaptable she is. Sansa was like I would have in A Game of Thrones and she grew up so fast and in such harsh conditions.

Other characters I adore are Jaime Lannister, Robb, Ned, Tyrion and Theon.

3.Who are your least favorite three characters in the series? Why?

Oh, ASOIAF has so many awful characters. Craster. Qyburn. Ramsay Bolton and Walder Frey. Oh, and Joffrey. However, I think it’s so easy to just choose one of them. So I’m going to tell you about three characters that I don’t really like, but that are usually fan-favorites: I don’t like Daenerys. I love her in AGoT but around book two I started to mildly dislike her and I just stopped liking her all together during ADwD. I never really liked Jon Snow. I have no idea why, maybe it’s just because I thought he’s so very tropey and angsty. I sorta started liking him in ADwD, but it was a little too late. Another character that I just don’t like is Davos. I never really got attached to him, even though I like his point of view.

4.#1 Favorite moment in all of ASOIAF so far? Why?

Oh, so many. How can I possibly choose one? I adore it when someone talks about Robert’s Rebellion and about Rhaegar Targaryen, the Kingsguard. Remember that dream Jaime has, when he sees Rhaegar’s ghost? Yeah, I loved that. Bran’s point of view is always great for me, especially in the last book.

5. In your dream-world, how would you like to see the series end, and why?

In my dream world, the Seven Kingdoms are once again Seven different kingdoms. Under no circumstance do I want dragons to be there, Daenerys can be khaleesi and give up on the whole Queen thing, because I don’t think she would be any good in Westeros. Sansa is not allowed to die, and I would forgive George Martin Khal Drogo’s death, The Red Wedding, Ned’s death and absolutely everything else if Jaime/Brienne happens, but I think I’d be fine with just both of them living and being badasses together.

I'm getting a strong Tyrell vibe. Your quotes fit, as do your best (particularly the first one) and worst traits. I couldn't help but think of Margaery finally confronting Cersei during your description of your last worst trait, especially while at the same time you mention normally being quite calm/composed. Actually, quite a few things here remind me of Margaery.

Apparently I'm really good at going against the grain today, because to me you seem more Targaryen than anything else :) To me you seem like a "family is more than blood" type of person and that just screams Dany. Also, the first quote you chose and the way you described it relating to you sounds very much like Dany trying to rectify her own personality with what she has learned about her family ("when a Targ is born, the gods flip a coin and that Targ is either mad or great"), and how she doesn't want to be the mad Targ. Plus your comment about your temper and how you're like the Hulk just made me think "DON'T WAKE THE DRAGON"! :D So yeah, Targ it is.

I love you favourite character section, but that's not the reason why I'm voting you Tyrell. I just think your app has a "growing strong" vibe to it, that reminds me of Marg, with dashes of Loras' stubborness and wilfulness. Even you large and annoying but tightly knit family reminds me of Tyrells, lol, so it's House Sparkly for you from my end.
