All About You
1. Describe your ideal house/home. Please go into as much detail as possible, and be sure to include your ideal geographical location in the description!. I live on a reservation and I actually wouldn't live anywhere else. I love it here. The house is small, but it's cozy, and it's the place I've always known. Aside from that, I love being surrounded by books and kitschy knicknacks. Of course I'd love to have a plusher bed and more things to make it feel like home - pictures on the walls, colorful rugs, stuff like that. I guess I'm simple with what I want, but at the same time I like to be visually entertained.
2. Imagine you’re given the classic opportunity: a genie granting you three wishes. What would you wish for? Please be as elaborate as you can. Wishing for more wishes is not permitted! Physical health, for my father to be content, and a million dollars would be nice (because money can't buy happiness, but it sure can help).
3. In your life so far, what accomplishment are you the most proud of? Why? You can list more than one if you have trouble deciding. ;) I'm proud of being on my own, more or less, out from under my parent's roof and taking care of myself. I've sort of been there, done that, before but at least this time it's going a lot better.
4. Which of the following is most important to you: Love, Money, Knowledge, Family, Friendship, Adventure, or Pleasure? Which is the least important to you? Please explain why for each choice. I'm going to have to say Friendship is most important, because without that, how is any of the rest of it important? Adventure might be least important because I'm a bit of a homebody.
5. What's one quote (or passage, song lyric, etc.) that effectively describes you and your values? Explain. I can't say that this quote explicitly describes my values, but who wrote it and what book it comes from and all that in context does. This is one of the most important writers in my life, one of the most important writers to my culture, and this quote is one that is most personal to me:
“That's how I do this life sometimes by making the ordinary just like magic and just like a card trick and just like a mirror and just like disappearing. Every Indian learns how to be a magician and learns how to misdirect attention and the dark hand is always quicker than the white eye and no matter how close you get to my heart you will never find out my secrets and I'll never tell you and I'll never show you the same trick twice. I'm traveling heavy with illusions.”
― Sherman Alexie, The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven
6. How do you manage your money? On that note, how important is money/financial security to you? Go into as much detail as you can. As tightly and responsibly as possible, and then if there's something left at the end of the month, I splurge. Money is in short supply around here, so it's not really on the top of my priority list. Having it or not having it wouldn't make much of a difference.
7. Name (and elaborate on) some of your hobbies. What are your favorite things to do outside of school/the office? I write (fic, original pieces). That's all I've ever done, and I think it's safe to say it's the thing I'm most passionate about.
8. Name three things you are afraid of. Explain. Losing my father, because he really is the rock I cling to most of the time. I don't know if I'd actually be able to hack it knowing that he isn't there to fall back on; failing, which I think is a pretty common fear actually, but the idea of starting something and not being able to finish it is what keeps me from starting a lot of things in the first place; and being called out, publicly, for my shortcomings. There are other things, more tangible things, but I think those three are bigger than the rest.
9. Name (and elaborate on) your top three BEST and top three WORST qualities (personality-related, not physical). Please answer as fully as you can, as this is an important question. My best qualities are probably my imagination/creativity - I've always gotten compliments on how I visualize things and how descriptive and realistic I can be in my writing; my problem/puzzle/riddle-solving abilities - if I look at something long enough, chances are I can figure out how to undo it, I'm a master of finding the loophole in almost anything, and tying together loose ends; and probably my uncanny instincts - it gets weird sometimes, I have friends who consistently are like "how did you even know that?" at me. My worst qualities are how hard it is for me to read people emotionally, and connect with them on an emotional level; how easily distracted I can be - or rather how I can get really involved with something and in turn be totally neglectful towards everything (and everyone) else; and that I'm really resistant to unexpected changes - it's just weird and uncomfortable and I don't like it, I prefer predictability and consistency.
A Song of Ice and Fire Related
1. How many books from the series have you completed? I've read through A Dance with Dragons.
2. Who are your favorite three characters in the series? Why? Arya Stark - She's essentially the kind of strong character who I love, someone who turns her back on sociocultural expectations and just does what she wants no matter what anyone thinks of her. I like her POVs the best too. Jaqen H'Ghar - Again, the sort of character that I always fall in love with: the rogue trickster assassin. I think I like him more because we know so little about him. My "type" is always the mysterious, sneaky, shapeshifters anyhow. Sandor Clegane - I love his development through the series, how he starts out as this very one-dimensional character who's only purpose was to serve Joffrey and then slowly we see more of him - from his affection towards Sansa, turning his back on his duties, his fear and his troubled childhood, his interactions with Arya later on, and the way he "died". I'm of the opinion that Sandor didn't physically die, but rather the part of him that was the Hound is dead and we haven't seen the last of him yet. I'm eager to see his heroic side (again).
3. Who are your least favorite three characters in the series? Why? Cersei Lannister - My hatred for Cersei comes down to one thing: Joffrey. There's a lot of nature vs. nuture debate in why people turn out horrible little monsters, but in Joffrey's case, both nature and nuture come down to one thing, his mother. It's not Joffrey's fault that he is the way he is, it's Cersei's. Theon Greyjoy - Family isn't who donated to your genetics, family is who loves you. And above all, betraying your family and their love is unforgiveable. I understand why he did it, who doesn't want the love of their parents, but he could have done what his father told him to instead of trying to be a hero and messing up far more than he might have otherwise. Ned Stark - My unpopular fandom opinion is essentially that Ned jacked up everything. Littlefinger had a plan, a pretty good plan as far as we can tell, and told Ned to just shut up and let Joffrey take the throne, but he had to be noble and because of that he put his entire family in danger.
4. #1 Favorite moment in all of ASOIAF so far? Why? Arya and Sandor's Excellent Adventure. I know technically he kidnapped her and technically she hates him, but the amount of character development for both of them in that arc was astounding. He helped her scratch a few names off her list (including his own) and helped her get Needle back. I like their dynamic, and even though a lot of tragedy struck in the course of all that, I think both characters came out changed for the better.
5. In your dream-world, how would you like to see the series end, and why? My hopeful endgame is to see Jon and Dany sharing the Iron Throne. We know that Jon wouldn't want to run the whole thing on his own and I think Dany has realized there are bigger things in the world than claiming the throne on her own. So in my perfect world, Jon is the son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark, making him the Prince that was Promised, he marries Sansa, and rules over the North while Dany rules over the South and continues her crusade of keeping the Free Cities free. I'd also like to see Dany get Drogo back, which I know is possible because I already cracked the code.

Date: 2012-06-29 02:48 am (UTC)Also, I feel like I have to point out that we can't blame Cersei entirely for what Joffery was like. Robert certainly carries a huge part of that blame, most heavily in the way in which he treated Cersei. Monkey see, monkey do and Joffery is his father's son.
