All About You

Describe your ideal house/home. Please go into as much detail as possible, and be sure to include your ideal geographical location in the description!.

It’s got to be the perfect mixture of this: mountains, trees, ocean. I cannot be landlocked! Ideally somewhere where it does rain and there are weather patterns. Though it doesn’t rain there often, the fog and overcast days are enough for me in Santa Barbara, CA. Or, Wellington, NZ... I love it there, too!

My ideal house—I’ve always wanted to live in a Mac-ed out treehouse. Ideally, something that is technologically savvy (Apple products, please!), yet made out of all natural materials. Lots of wood! Simplistic, beautiful, with windows that have spectacular views. And lots of lush, green trees providing lots of shade and that blow in the wind. It wouldn’t be too big—it’ll be just the right size with nooks and crannies and cushions. Oh, and good acoustics ‘cause I must have music playing all the time.

Imagine you’re given the classic opportunity: a genie granting you three wishes. What would you wish for? Please be as elaborate as you can. Wishing for more wishes is not permitted!

Not have to worry about finances ever again for myself and my extended family.

Have my ideal partner by my side... a guy who would be my equal, who balances
me out perfectly. We would have our own interests, but would compliment
each other perfectly--I’d assist him, he’d assist me.

The ways and means of traveling anywhere at anytime and see the world!

In your life so far, what accomplishment are you the most proud of? Why? You can list more than one if you have trouble deciding. ;)

Picking up and moving across country on my own to go to grad school. Granted, grad school was a complete waste of time and money, but I was able to meet so many people and gain a lot of friends I never had the guts to do back where I grew up.

Which of the following is most important to you: Love, Money, Knowledge, Family, Friendship, Adventure, or Pleasure? Which is the least important to you? Please explain why for each choice.

Oooh, this is hard!

Most important—sounds harsh, but I have to say Knowledge. The others will come and go and are dependent on other people and outside circumstances, but the one a person can take complete responsibility for is Knowledge.

Least Important—Ha! As much as I desperately need it, gotta say Money. I have consciously chosen a living that leaves me in the poorhouse, but I want to live like my father, who insists that he’s never worked a day in his life. Why? Because he loves what he does so much that it doesn’t count as work for him. I could easily go into something that pays more money, but if starts feeling like “work”... well, that’s not what I think we’re put on this planet for. I want to live my life, not work my life.

What's one quote (or passage, song lyric, etc.) that effectively describes you and your values? Explain.

I’ve used this in a fanfic, and then another friend posted it recently on Facebook:

As far as we can discern, the sole purpose of human existence is to kindle a light in the darkness of mere being. — Carl Jung.

Be it for ourselves or for others, I should add.

How do you manage your money? On that note, how important is money/financial security to you? Go into as much detail as you can.

My money? Not very well. Other peoples’ money? Like a champion. See above for previous thoughts on money...

Seriously, if I could swap handling personal finances with someone, it’d be fantastic--I’d handle their budget, they’d handle mine. I’m just CRAP at handling my own. That being said, I long for financial security... and hope to one day achieve it. But only by something that I am proud of and gives me personal satisfaction.

Name (and elaborate on) some of your hobbies. What are your favorite things to do outside of school/the office?

I love to go hiking...I live in an area with a plethora of hiking trails. And go to the beach! Though I have a healthy fear of the ocean, I am very much drawn to it. My ideal day off is to go to the beach when everyone else is at their 9-5, curl up under a blanket on my patch of sand and read until the afternoon sun comes out, when I peel off the blanket and layers and lay out in the sun.

And I love to read and watch the handful of TV shows I follow. When I do go out with friends, I like the small intimate settings of my favorite cozy bar or sit around on someone’s porch/living room and have deep conversations over a really good cocktail or glass of wine.

I’ve recently started writing some fanfic, which has been a great creative outlet lately.

And MUSIC. I have to have music playing at all times. Especially when reading/writing.

Name three things you are afraid of. Explain.

Loneliness. As much as I prefer being alone, I hate being lonely... two very different things.

Drowning. That would be the worst death ever, but as a Pisces, I’m still drawn to the water.

Anxiety. I used to suffer from it more in the past, and it would manifest itself physically. It’s gotten much, much better, but sometimes it creeps back in and I have to take stock of my situation, step back, and take control again.

Name (and elaborate on) your top three BEST and top three WORST qualities (personality-related, not physical). Please answer as fully as you can, as this is an important question.

For those playing the Myers-Briggs game, I’m an INTP... which will explain most of my best and worst qualities.

BEST:

I’m ridiculously logical. And I use this trait to bring the fairest solution to all problems, for all people involved.

I usually hate it when people brag about this, because it’s something that should not be claimed, but determined by others... but I’m pretty damn funny. (I swear others DO say that about me.) I’m really good at off-the-cuff remarks, though it can get me in trouble sometimes.

I’m a Jack of all Trades. Or maybe I’m a Jill of all Trades. However, I am master of none. I’m pretty good at most things I attempt, but I’m not an expert at everything.

WORST:

Again, I’m ridiculously logical. To the point where I can’t shut my mind off, and
I find myself having control issues because of that... sometimes I wish I could just “let go.” And it also tends to annoy people, too.

For some reason, people find me intimidating. Though I’m friendly, funny, and the like...I sometimes come across as too much, it seems. Guys especially get scared by me because I tend to think like a guy, and that scares the hell out of them.

Back to the Jill of all Trades. I wish there was just ONE thing I really, truly excel at that I could rely on for job and financial security reasons. As much as I like being well-rounded, I’m also tired of being a B+ manager, writer, musician, conversationalist, baker, cooker, friend, daughter, sister, whatever. For once, I would like to be “The Best” at one thing.

A Song of Ice and Fire Related

1.How many books from the series have you completed?

I was horribly stalled on the fourth book for four years. Even when watching the first season of the TV show, I didn’t feel the urge... but I’ve been on a reading rampage since the start of the year, and I couldn’t delay it any longer. I finished AFoC last week and immediately devoured ADwD with a few days.

2.Who are your favorite three characters in the series? Why?

This is hard. I started this questionnaire before finishing the fourth book...but now that I’m all caught up, I think my answers have changed.

Tyrion. This has not changed. His wit, intelligence, and all around originality of a literary character makes him a winner. And he certainly is the most travelled of all the characters—even more so than Dany, so his perspective on the whole worldview is very, very important.

Jon Snow. This was a tentative pick before I caught up, but once I delved back into things and thoroughly examined his roots, he’s become a fast favorite. If the theory of Rhaegar and Lyanna Stark being his parents is true... well, I’m a sucker for a tragic love story. (If it is indeed a love story and not a conquer-and-rape-to-fulfill-a-prophecy story). He is definitely one of the most honorable characters of the series, though he does have his flaws.

This is hard. Originally it was Arya—another strong, intelligent character who has undergone so much growth. And if she’s anything like her aunt Lyanna, whose history I am rather infatuated with, then she’d definitely be a favorite. But after finishing book 5, others, both past and present, have risen up...especially the minor characters. Barristen Selmy. Any and all of the Daynes. Meera Reed. Asha Greyjoy. Jon Connington. Hell, I even have a soft spot for Jaime... For now, I will stick with Arya.

3.Who are your least favorite three characters in the series? Why?

I’m going out on a limb now to NOT mention Theon. He’s no where near my least favorite character...

Victarion Greyjoy. The Greyjoy plot thread just hasn’t gripped me...yet. And I’m sure I should hate his brother more...but he’s the one that pops in my head at the moment.

Queen Selyse. Holy crap, what a waste of a woman... she causes more harm than good, her unwavering faith is annoying, her behaviors at the Wall. Just... blah.

Ramsey Bolton. No explanation necessary.

Those are some of my least favorite characters...but there’s no way this series would work without them. They all have such an integral part of the whole story, so in that sense, I value them immensely.

4.#1 Favorite moment in all of ASOIAF so far? Why?

So hard. Such a hard question. Before I finished, it was easily the Red Wedding...WOW. It was the game changer in the series, so incredibly well-written and tragic... It does not surprise me to learn that GRRM wrote that once he finished the rest of the book first. That just goes to show how important it truly was. How can it not be a favorite?

But in this last book... the moment that made me exclaim “WHAT?!” out loud, slam the book down, and reevaluate what this book is truly about was when Bran finally met the Three-Eyed Crow. I could argue that THAT chapter is one of the most important chapters in the entire series, too. Talk about the big picture... holy hell. I’m still trying to wrap my head around what this all means, and I think the sample chapter of TWoW that GRRM has on his website hints at what’s completely possible now that Bran’s abilities are finally being explored to their full potential.

5. In your dream-world, how would you like to see the series end, and why?

This is tricky, because I would rather not think about how it would end. The worst thing would be to guess correctly, which would ruin all of the fun of the big reveals. There are a few small points that I think I would like to see fulfilled:

Theon—the guy needs redemption and granted a peaceful death...the world is too cruel a place for him, and he just doesn’t belong with the good or the bad guys.

The full story of Rhaegar and Lyanna.

Dany rules over Essos, leaving Westeros to one of the other heads of the dragon.

Those caught between life and death, be them wight, Catelyn, Brynden Rivers, or any of the others, are released and allowed to either live or die.

I just hope to be pleasantly surprised and satisfied when the series is all said and done!

Your love/hate relationship with water is interesting, along with your book answer about characters being allowed to either live or die and not be caught between. In some respects, I can see that being very much like a Greyjoy (and your being intimidating/thinking like a guy is sort of Asha-like). So I'm going to say Greyjoy.

I don't have a really strong sense of any one house for you. I'm going to go with Martell because it seems to fit best... Northern Dorne might suit your landscape requirements, and I see this breezy sort of attitude about life and pursuing what you want rather than what might be most practical that fits too, I think.

I, too, am a complete sucker for the Rhagear + Lyanna love story (if that, indeed, is what it is...)

I think you have a lot of really great attributes and I think, like others, that you belong in Dorne. You have some characteristics that are very Martell and made me think of both the Prince of Dorne and the Sand Snakes when I read your application.

Greyjoy. You have this zest, YOLO kind of vibe to you, which I can definitely see why people are translating that to Martell, but I think it lands on the Greyjoy side of things. You're rather Asha-like - which is a good thing, being that she's a fierce pirate queen, basically. ;)

I'm a bit hesitant, because of your fear of drowning and because of your commentary about the Greyjoy storyline being a least favorite, but there is just so much that SCREAMS Kraken about you. Your dream house-- a treehouse near the ocean where it rains all the time? Ok, Pyke may not be a treehouse exactly, but it's pretty close... Your fearlessness in packing up and moving across the country on your own... and even your best/worst traits remind me a lot of Asha.

And then there's this line: "That being said, I long for financial security... and hope to one day achieve it. But only by something that I am proud of and gives me personal satisfaction." Sounds like paying the Iron Price for something. :)

So yeah, Greyjoy
