How did you find out about the community? If it's through an LJ user, please tell us who it is (individual user if possible, not just a community name!): I saw it promoted somewhere, not sure where. I’ve been meaning to apply for a while, so it’s difficult to remember.
Age: 23
Location: Louisville, KY
Occupation: Right now I’m a part-time security guard, part time therapist/rehab counselor, and full-time student. Soon to be only a part time therapist/rehab counselor and full-time student.
All About You
1. Describe your ideal house/home. Please go into as much detail as possible, and be sure to include your ideal geographical location in the description!. Geography wise, I want a home that is on the outskirts of town. Far enough away that I can burn a bonfire in my backyard without worrying about city fire ordinances, but not so far that I cannot get high speed internet at a reasonable price. It would be lovely if there is at least one willow tree and a few strong oaks. As for the house, it is hard to envision an entire “dream house”. Rather, I can pick out a certain few dream characteristics. The living room would have a large bay window facing the front yard. The kitchen would have granite countertops, a double oven on the wall, and an island with a range top stove. The master bath would be spacious, with a seafoam green color scheme. There would be a large back deck overlooking an in-ground pool and hot tub. I would sit in the hot tub and look up at the stars during the summer.
2. Imagine you’re given the classic opportunity: a genie granting you three wishes. What would you wish for? Please be as elaborate as you can. Wishing for more wishes is not permitted! I would wish for a million dollars, first of all. This money would be spent on the following: paying off my student loans, buying a house, setting up a college fund for my children, giving my parents and in-laws some money. What was left would be put into savings. Second, I would wish for father to be cured of his emphysema. I hate seeing him suffer and the idea of him dying young is terrifying to me. Third, I would wish for infinite air miles so I can go see my best friends who are all over the world whenever I want.
3. In your life so far, what accomplishment are you the most proud of? Why? You can list more than one if you have trouble deciding. ;) I overcame my addiction to self-injury. I began self-harming when I was 9 years old and continued to off and on until fifteen, when it became a full-blown “problem”. Knowing people who are addicted to substances, the effect that SI had on me was pretty much the same. I craved it, to the point that I felt twitchy and sick if I didn’t get my “hit”. I still struggle with it when things become stressful, as it was my coping mechanism for so long that it’s almost instinctual. So every time I say no is an accomplishment.
4. Which of the following is most important to you: Love, Money, Knowledge, Family, Friendship, Adventure, or Pleasure? Which is the least important to you? Please explain why for each choice. Love, definitely. For one thing, love and friendship go hand in hand for me. I love my friends. If you have gone beyond “acquaintance” to “friend”, I will do whatever I can for you. I will hurt when you hurt, smile when you smile. Love is also family. I don’t consider all of my blood relatives family. My family is chosen, and while some of that family is blood, some is not. My family, my friends, my husband – these are all people I love. I also try to show love in my actions, even to strangers. I try to be understanding, compassionate, non-judgmental. I think love means respect, equality, safety, protection….to me, love is the underpinning of all the good things in the world.
Least important would be adventure. I do love to learn, I love to enjoy things, and money has to be important because of the way the world is. But I prefer to play it safe, and like routine and calm. I’m not a thrill-seeker at all, mostly due to my habit of being responsible to the point of paranoia.
5. What's one quote (or passage, song lyric, etc.) that effectively describes you and your values? Explain. “I have everything to lose/ by not getting up to fight/ I might get used to giving up/ so I am showing up tonight/ I’m my own worst enemy/ A battle fought within my mind/ if I can overcome step one/ I can face the ninety-nine.” – One More by Superchick. I tend to psyche myself out, and tell myself I can’t do something. I’m not smart enough, I’m too tired, I just want to give up. I have to fight myself to stay motivated, but when I do and I see results it’s all worth it.
6. How do you manage your money? On that note, how important is money/financial security to you? Go into as much detail as you can. Financial security is pretty important to me, due to growing up poor. My definition of security is comfort, not wealth. If my husband and I can pull in enough money to raise a child without struggling too much, I’m happy with that. “Security” means not doing what I call “the bill shuffle”, where you cycle which bills to pay every month to avoid being cut off. I saw my mom do this too often.
We have a budget, but don’t stick to it as well as we should. I obsessively check my bank balance, and tend to panic about going low on funds. We always have money in savings, at least a month’s worth of bills, or I can’t relax.
7. Name (and elaborate on) some of your hobbies. What are your favorite things to do outside of school/the office? I’m a gamer. I can’t play first-person shooters, though, for two reasons: I am horrible at aiming, and the first person POV makes me motion sick. I play WoW, Mass Effect, Dragon Age and Pokemon. I’m a perfectionist in-game. I’ve tried tabletop gaming but can’t get into it. I also read, a lot. It’s a common joke that I’m a speed reader. My book collection has been pared down a lot since switching to the Nook, but certain series have to be kept in hard copy. I make fanmixes, and write when I can. I’ve had writer’s block for the past hmmmm 3 years or so, but it’s lifting for Mass Effect right now. My last hobby, and the one my husband makes fun of me for, is what he calls “nesting”. I like to peruse the houseware aisles at stores, or ogle Bed Bath & Beyond catalogues. I love finding new ways to organize, or new kitchen utensils. Only my best friend understands.
8. Name three things you are afraid of. Explain. Failure is my biggest fear. As stated before, I am my own worst critic. I am terrified that I’m going to fail in my career and be unable to contribute to my marriage, my family, and society at large. A more tangible fear is spiders. I woke up from a nap on a swingset when I was around 4 to find a garden spider crawling up my stomach. Combine that with my mother’s own severe arachnophobia, and I of course developed a fear of spiders. My worst fear, though, is my father dying. He has a chronic illness, if not a terminal one, and his sister died of it when she was only 5 years older than he is now. He has been hospitalized quite often for the past three years and had a very close call a year ago. I am a huge daddy’s girl, and trying to imagine a future without him is like a black hole in my mind.
9. Name (and elaborate on) your top three BEST and top three WORST qualities (personality-related, not physical). Please answer as fully as you can, as this is an important question. Best….hm. I’m a good listener. Part of that is honestly training, as part of being a therapist IS listening, but I don’t doubt that some therapists are not. I ask questions, maintain eye contact without being creepy, and can recall small details of a conversation weeks or months later. Second, I am loving. As mentioned before, I try to let love show through in all my actions. I’m not as physically affectionate as I once was, but I try to let those I care about know that I do in various ways. Third, I’m giving. This sometimes gets me in trouble, actually. I like to help my friends and loved ones in need, whether it be monetarily or with moral support.
Worst qualities…First, I would say I have a lot of trouble being assertive. This is improving, but honestly the thought of any confrontation makes me physically ill. This has caused me to be walked all over, to stay at jobs that I hate, and to be abused. It makes me feel weak, and it makes me appear weak and an easy target to others. Second, I am impatient. When I want something, I want it now. When I need to go somewhere, I need to go right now, not five minutes from now. I want to know what you want to say, stop trailing off and just tell me! My husband is constantly late, and trails off a lot, so this is a bickering point for us. Third, I am stubborn. I will cling to a point like my life depends on it, even once I’m proven wrong. I don’t like things to change, and will dig my feet in to keep it from happening.
A Song of Ice and Fire Related
1.How many books from the series have you completed? All of them, and I have reread 1-4 multiple times.
2.Who are your favorite three characters in the series? Why? Danaerys, because I have loved seeing her become a strong woman and a leader in her own right, and I think she may be going a bit mad. Sansa, which is strange because I hated her on first read through. But now I feel so much sympathy for her, and how much she has been through when she thought the world was a beautiful place. The shattering of her naiveté has been beautiful and heartbreaking. Arya, because I love her spunk and her strength and her cunning. I love that we see Ned so much in her, and that she is still hiding Needle and thus hiding her Stark-self, and I love that she still knows who she is after having been so many people at such a young age.
3.Who are your least favorite three characters in the series? Why? Cersei. I feel for her, at least somewhat, because she does wish she had been born a man and could wield the power a man can wield. I also realize that her sexual manipulation Is the only power she feels she has. But, she has done such terrible things to so many people, and attempted to do more. I have loathed her since she had Lady killed. Joffrey, of course, because he was such a sadist and I didn’t see a single redeemable quality in him. His sadism made him almost one-dimensional, because we know that he showed such tendencies at a young age and thus I think they would have shown up even if Robert had been the best father in the seven kingdoms. Euron, because I feel him to be a flat villain character and I honestly don’t care much about the Greyjoys regardless.
4.#1 Favorite moment in all of ASOIAF so far? Why? “Or maybe he’ll give me yours.” I love this moment above all others. We see Sansa stripped of her rose-colored glasses. She knows what kind of man Joffrey is, knows that her fairy tale is not coming true, has just seen her father’s head on a spike and has been deeply traumatized. And yet, she stands up to her fiancé, to her king, and defends her family. She shows her inner direwolf, and this is the moment when we see what Sansa can be.
5. In your dream-world, how would you like to see the series end, and why? I want Dany to realize that she does not want to rule Westeros after all. She has never lived there, this is not her culture, and I don’t think she will want it. I would like to see her become close with Tyrion, who is at the very least a trusted advisor to the king. I would be okay with Jon on the throne. I want the Stark children to be reunited, at least for a while. And I want the dragons to kill the Others.

Date: 2012-05-23 07:03 am (UTC)Your quote also sounded like Daenerys to me, with the many obstacles she faces and finds the inner strength not to give up even when things go tremendously wrong.
So I kinda have a dilemma here, you see) If I employ simple maths, I guess I'll have to say there's more Tully in you in the end.

Date: 2012-05-23 11:23 am (UTC)First, I believe that a lot of things you said about love, caring and family that got pegged as Tully are very typical of Dany. She's a compassionate soul, and loving and giving is a lot of what being Mother of Dragons is about. The quote is very Dany too, imo.
Second, you overcoming your self-injury addiction reminds me of constant struggle with madness that is known to every Targaryen, and I think the sane Targs, the ones who won, are the ones who're most aware of it.

Date: 2012-05-23 07:20 pm (UTC)This is a difficult app for me to sort. There's just something about your emphasis on love, your inner strength, and your good qualities that can say Tyrell as well as Tully, although I think in the end it's very hard for me to decide between those two.
So Tyrell it is.

Date: 2012-05-24 08:42 pm (UTC)So many of your answers revolve around caring for and worrying about your family-- about how much they mean to you and how much you want to protect them. But more than that, you also have a calmness and a caring attitude that I think leans towards Stark/Tully. There's too much warmth in you to head north, though, so you belong in House Tully.
