All About You
1. Describe your ideal house/home. Please go into as much detail as possible, and be sure to include your ideal geographical location in the description!.
I’m like to live in a place with all four seasons, as I’ve grown up on an island and I know I get bored of the same weather every day. Variety is the spice of life and I want to experience it all; I’m quite happy that I’ll soon be moving to a country where the weather changes from sun to snow in a day! Also, I’m a city girl so I’m happiest in large places with lots of excitement and hustle. The biggest requirement for me would be lots of places to explore and do fun things.
As for my ideal home, I’d like an apartment with lots of windows for sunlight, ledges to perch on, and nooks to read in. I have a deep appreciation and affinity for beauty, so I will make sure it is classy and up to par ;-)
2. Imagine you’re given the classic opportunity: a genie granting you three wishes. What would you wish for? Please be as elaborate as you can. Wishing for more wishes is not permitted!
I know I should wish for something altruistic like “world peace”, but I don’t think it’s realistic; in my opinion it is completely against human nature to coexist in a permanent state of peace with others. We humans are not bred for peace, we are bred for competition and survival. Wishing for world peace could result in a catastrophic alteration of the human condition! Right, time to be selfish now :P
1: Enhanced physical properties, ie superior sense of sight, smell, balance, strength, and speed. Hey, it wasn’t against the rules to make an umbrella wish ;-)
2: Ability to sense the true intentions/emotions of others. People so often present a façade; if someone approached with me with malicious intent, I’d be able to know. I could always remain one step ahead of friend and foe alike.
3: The ability to be successful in everything I set out to do. Then I’d be set! I could cure cancer and other life-threatening diseases and actually cook something edible for once.
3. In your life so far, what accomplishment are you the most proud of? Why? You can list more than one if you have trouble deciding. ;)
I’m proud that I’m about to graduate high school and start university in the fall! I don’t know if this counts, but I think it’s an accomplishment that I’m confidant and happy with who I am.
4. Which of the following is most important to you: Love, Money, Knowledge, Family, Friendship, Adventure, or Pleasure? Which is the least important to you? Please explain why for each choice.
Pleasure is paramount. I have a hedonistic streak and I intend to enjoy life, not suffer through it. I take pleasure in love, money, knowledge, family, friendship, and adventure, so it seems a natural answer to me. As for what is least important – you can’t have family and friendship without love, so choosing between the three is difficult. I suppose I would sacrifice friendship. That just means I’ll have to love all my friends dearly to the point where ‘friendship’ wouldn’t cover the depth of my loyalty to them :-)
5. What's one quote (or passage, song lyric, etc.) that effectively describes you and your values? Explain.
“Welcome to the jungle, watch it bring you to your knees – I’m gonna watch you bleed.” – Guns ‘N Roses, “Welcome to the Jungle”.
I want to “make the world a better place~~” and all of those sparkly things, but that desire has made me all too aware of the intense suffering we’re all going to face at some point in our lives. Life is a jungle; no one comes out of life without having bled. Life is a battle; you take from it what you can and be merciful every chance you get, but animal spirit and survival instinct dictates that you look after yourself first (unless you are a parent, in which case your first instinct is to look after your offspring). It is a dog-eat-dog world which makes compassion more valuable because light shines brighter in the darkness. (The “I’m going to watch you bleed” part doesn’t refer to sadism, I interpret it more as “we’re all going to have to witness other people suffer” sort of thing.)
6. How do you manage your money? On that note, how important is money/financial security to you? Go into as much detail as you can.
I’m a responsible spender, which I’m pretty proud of! I know discipline and restraint. I will sound a little spoiled here but I’ve had the freedom to buy whatever I wanted. Instead of going crazy like a typical teenager, it somehow taught me restraint; I’m extremely moderate with finances and I don’t abuse my freedom. I’ve also helped pay bills and file taxes before so I know how to manage finances!
I’d to get a job as soon as possible so I don’t have to die in debt to student loans. Financial security is important; I’d like to take my parents places and see the world, so of course I need cash on hand. I don’t want worry about when my next meal is going to be, or how I can’t pay my rent. I think that money offers you freedom to do as you please and life, as I mentioned, is about pleasure for me.
7. Name (and elaborate on) some of your hobbies. What are your favorite things to do outside of school/the office?
Typical answer: I spend time with my friends. I’m leaving home soon so I want to spend quality time with them and make lots of memories; we’re adventuring to new places and sights before we head our separate ways. Other than that I am a major bookworm and passionate about learning in general: I study several languages and brush up on my world history from time to time. I also love watching foreign films and traveling. I want to see and experience everything.
8. Name three things you are afraid of. Explain.
1: Failure. I’m quite ambitious and even if I don’t meet the specific goals I’ve set for myself, I do not want to fail in life by not finding a successful job where I am happy (yes, that is my definition of failure.) I have a strong sense of individualism and the thought of not being able to do what I want is my personal hell.
2: Helplessness. I don’t like the idea of being forced to sit by and watch the shit storm rain (sorry if that offended anyone.) I am very much a woman of action and taking power away from me is akin to removing a part of my identity from myself.
3: Commitment. This honestly should have come first, I just don’t think I wanted to admit it. I have a strong fear of commitment, strong enough to affect my friendships. At times I have pulled away from friends to test how strong our bond was before coming back. As human beings we live with the knowledge that one day, we will lose everything we love, and I find that beautiful…but it also gives deeper meaning to our relationships with others and that we need to be careful with them. I don’t like the idea of being tied down, stifled, and “domesticated”. In Western culture women are always portrayed as domesticators and men as the wild stallions who need to be broken for marriage. Where is the beauty in breaking a stallion? The true beauty lies in the freedom of the individual, and I don’t want a commitment to someone else to keep me from doing what I want and when I want. tl;dr If you’ve seen Braveheart, just imagine that scene where Mel Gibson yells “FREEEEEEEEEEEEEDOOOOOOOOOM!” and that’s me ;-)
9. Name (and elaborate on) your top three BEST and top three WORST qualities (personality-related, not physical). Please answer as fully as you can, as this is an important question.
Best:
1: Charm. I’ve been told quite often that I’m charming, warm, or otherwise likeable. It’s my favorite compliment! I love meeting new people; I have a knack for socializing. My default setting is “smiling innocently off into space”; apparently this is perceived as “not much of a threat” to most people, because I always have people come up to me randomly to ask for help or chit chat.
2: Adaptability. I’m very adaptable and receptive to change. I get bored in a ridiculously short amount of time, so I’m always seeking new opportunities (I was once told that I have the attention span of a squirrel on crack, which I took as a compliment) and I’m good at sensing the mood in conversations/social settings and switching tact if we’re veering into controversial territory. I can be eloquent and graceful in front of my superiors, wild and loud around my best friends, argumentative when it suits me and able to yield when it is most prudent.
3: Humor. I do think I have a good sense of humor, whether I use it to set people at ease or tease them mercilessly (I like the second one best.) I am an entertainer and I adore making people laugh; nothing makes me happier than to bring joy to the people I care about.
Worst:
1: Fickle. If I’m doing something, I want to enjoy doing it – if I commit myself to a task I find distasteful I will most likely move on to someone else. This had lead to a plethora of half-finished writings, a few cancelled meet-ups with friends, and several mandatory things that I just didn’t want to go to. Remember when I said I had a hedonist streak? I do what I please. Fortunately, the idea of “saving the world” pleases me.
2: Temperamental. You know how Viserys and Dany always talk about that dragon they don’t want people to wake inside of them? That dragon lives in me, and if it is displeased it will rear its head and obliterate everything in its past. I remember class debates last year that were the verbal equivalent of bloodbath massacres with limbs flying askance and bullets peppering every conceivable surface; I can be ruthless, disdainful, and overly aggressive if push comes to shove. This happens extremely rarely, but when it does…why do people bring that onto themselves?! That is their own damn fault :P To quote the Hogwarts motto: never poke a sleeping dragon in the eye…for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.
3: Proud. I am proud. I’m not too sure how to elaborate further; I just take pride in my actions and carry myself with pride. I’m not snobby or elitist, but I’m confident in what I do and I suppose it sometimes comes off as me running over other people, even if I don’t mean to.
A Song of Ice and Fire Related
1.How many books from the series have you completed?
I’ve just completed AFFC, now on to ADWD! I’ve read all of Theon’s chapters because he is my precious darling.
2.Who are your favorite three characters in the series? Why?
1. Theon! Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but I think he is judged way too harshly. I know exactly what it’s like to be torn between two worlds. He was born into one world but raised into another, just like I was born an American but raised with a lot of Asian cultural values. I had a few moments of confusion growing up – where do I belong? Maybe I should commit to my birth country America, but how can I turn my back on my blood? Like Theon, we should be in A because of our blood, but we should also be in B because of our upbringing. Cue confusion, bad decisions, and mistakes in the search to find ourselves. Also I admire his womanizing skills. They are known.
2. Oberyn Martell. I would do him in a heartbeat, and I think he’s an awesome dad (um, those clauses sound weird put together but you know what I mean. I think.) He claimed his illegitimate daughters and taught them how to fight and defend themselves even though many others wouldn’t value females in such a way; he’s a legendary fighter and so charismatic and charming. Yes good.
3. Cersei Lannister, my crazy queen. I warmed up to her starting from A Song of Swords, and now she is the crazy evil queen of my heart. She made a particularly vulgar comment about a thousand septas and their wrinkled…er, you get the point, and it just made me laugh out loud. What a crazy, ruthless, motherly lion of a woman.
3.Who are your least favorite three characters in the series? Why?
1. Jon Snow, which is funny because he was my favorite character until A Feast for Crows, which is where I stopped liking him. Sam didn’t want to be a maester, Snow was cruel in forcing him to do so and in ripping Gilly from her child. That is the worst pain you could inflict on a mother, and “Lord Snow” did it; screw his reasons, there were other ways. Plus I think his chapters are boring :-( What’s on the Wall? Ice and virginity, how thrilling :P
2. Melisandre. Objectively, I understand why people like her; she’s an alluring, powerful, captivating woman. Now I’m going to put my objective goggles aside and say SHE KILLED RENLY WITH SORCERY and I loved Loras and Renly together. Also, I really hate religious fanatics, meaning religious people that put down other peoples’ religions as “false” and try to convert everyone to their faith. I went to a Catholic school for twelve years and this really rubs me the wrong way. She is all sorts of do not want, and my fiery hatred for her will burn until the sun itself should extinguish and leave the world to float in eternal agony. Still, I can put my objective goggles back on and appreciate her :P
3. Ramsay
4.#1 Favorite moment in all of ASOIAF so far? Why?
Jeez, it’s all started to blend together at this point…I liked it when Littlefinger pushed Lysa out of the Moon Door and oh-so-coolly blamed it on Marillion. I know some people have said he’s really creepy towards Sansa, even abusive, but it seems like he’s the one character that knows what he’s doing and has it all together. I just think it was so cool that he flew to Sansa’s rescue like that and pushed Lysa out of the window all while declaring that the only woman he ever loved was Catelyn.
5. In your dream-world, how would you like to see the series end, and why?
I honestly can’t blame you if you don’t read this, but here we go – in my dream-world:
Brienne and Loras have their vengeance and slay Stannis and Melisandre, and Ramsay Bolton dies at the hand of Theon Greyjoy. Davos is allowed to return home
I’d have the story end this way because in the hellish chaotic inferno of this plot where everyone suffers tremendously I’d like to wrap up the loose ends and have the happiest of endings…until the next bloody war comes along.
Thanks for reading!

Date: 2012-05-14 01:22 pm (UTC)Money, ambition, and a fear of failure screams Lannister to me. Also, your discipline over spending reminds me of Tywin (the best qualities of him, really, not the soulless ones).

Date: 2012-05-15 03:56 pm (UTC)I think, that I settle on Lannister, because of your temper, ambition, pride and hedonistic streak. Also your fear of failure and commitment and the fact that you are a responsible spender.
Generally you reminded me of Cersei in many ways.

Date: 2012-05-17 02:51 am (UTC)Moving on to sorting, I see a Targaryen here, actually. From your wishing for supernatural gifts that would go hand in hand with your ambition, your admitting quite brazenly to a hedonistic streak, being fickle and temperamental but charming at the same time, all these things point me straight to the blood of the dragon. There's also a Tywin-like Lannister in the fear of failure and citing pride as a weakness. But, I think you talk about and evaluate your favourite/least favourite characters in a way that a outspoken and idealistic Targ would than a calculating Tywin-ish Lannister would.
