All About You

1. Describe your ideal house/home. Please go into as much detail as possible, and be sure to include your ideal geographical location in the description!.
I'm torn: part of me wants to live in an older home, and another part of me in something sleek and modern. Both have to be in the city, or at least a cozy neighborhood with things withing walking distance.

My older home would be build after 1920, with classic fixtures and unique elements. Ideally, it's be a small bungalow with a garden and tall trees surrounding it. I could talk to my local grocery store and the Mexican restaurant. There would be a ton of personality, from the windows to the light fixtures, and everything would feel comfy and cozy.

On the other hand, I'd like a modernized house with a large kitchen, modern appliances, and lots of wide open spaces and natural light. Natural light is key for both of my dream homes - I hate overhead lights and want to be able to open my curtains and let the light in.

As for geographic location...I'm a Southern girl, and I want to stay that way, so a small neighborhood in a large Southern city like Raleigh, Durham, or Columbia.

2. Imagine you’re given the classic opportunity: a genie granting you three wishes. What would you wish for? Please be as elaborate as you can. Wishing for more wishes is not permitted!
1. Longer hours in the day - or the ability to be multiple places at once. I feel like, as a teacher, I'm constantly on the go and I could really use more sleep!

2. The usual: money to ensure that I could live comfortably and be able to help out people, like my students, without breaking my own checking account.

3. Fall to last longer than winter. Granted, I do live in the South, but I spent quality time in the Midwest and snow/cold weather is not my bag anymore.

3. In your life so far, what accomplishment are you the most proud of? Why? You can list more than one if you have trouble deciding. ;)
When I was in graduate school, a tragedy happened at my university that prevented me and the majority of my fellow graduate students from preventing our thesis on time. I moved away from the small town, took a job at a historic site, and wrote my thesis while working full-time. And I finished it. Basically, I'm proud of the fact that anything I put my mind to, I will follow through on.

4. Which of the following is most important to you: Love, Money, Knowledge, Family, Friendship, Adventure, or Pleasure? Which is the least important to you? Please explain why for each choice.
Friendship - I need people in my life, which is why it's most important. I'm an extrovert, and I enjoy having a lot of interaction with people, and I think friendship, in any of its incarnations, is important because the ability to share things with others, and to be there with someone else when they need you, is one of the greatest gifts we can give.

I'm stuck on what's least important - not sure if it's money or pleasure, to be honest. I enjoy being able to do things with other people, and I want to be comfortable and have the means to do so, and both do rank below love, family, and knowledge for me. As for adventure, I feel like I can't rank that last because of the fact that I genuinely believe that part of what we need to do in our lives is go out and experience the world and as such, it's much higher than pleasure or money. I'm very indecisive here, I guess.

5. What's one quote (or passage, song lyric, etc.) that effectively describes you and your values? Explain.
"You mustn't be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling." - Inception

I love this line because I constantly set goals to challenge myself - get my teaching certification, finish graduate school, reapply to graduate school, etc - and I always pick the hardest path I can to challenge myself. I don't believe that dreaming big is a problem, because I think that if I have great expectations for myself, I'll achieve them. I try to teach that to my students as well.

6. How do you manage your money? On that note, how important is money/financial security to you? Go into as much detail as you can.
Automatic bill payment. And a husband who is OCD about that sort of thing.

If it was up to me, we'd probably be financially reuined but could build a fort and a bonfire to warm ourselves in the winter soley from my closet.

7. Name (and elaborate on) some of your hobbies. What are your favorite things to do outside of school/the office?
I am an avid reader - I love to read and I keep track of what I read on Goodreads. I also am writing my own YA novel (eep!) and I enjoy hanging out with family and friends. I wish I could add more to this, but for the longest time, I feel like my job HAS been my life outside of work, so I really have to try hard to do things like take time out for myself by writing or knitting or finding projects to do. I want to get more crafty and knit more and do other things, but I think scrap-booking is too much for me to handle (I am the least organized person you will ever meet)

8. Name three things you are afraid of. Explain.
Spiders - I have honestly woken up my husband in the middle of the night convinced that a spider is in my bed under the pillow.

Zombies - One time, when I was driving home from work on a highway, I noticed there was no traffic coming from the othe direction. And there are snipers on the overpasses. And I literally thought "Oh god, it's the zombie apolocalypse." It turned out to just be then-President Bush in town, but still. I can't watch zombie movies because they bother me tremendously. Sitting through The Walking Dead with friends was almost pure agony. My friends think it's hilarious, but honestly, I wish they knew how much I played it off and how very much they creep me out.

Wardrobe malfunctions - Seriously. I sometimes have social anxiety in situations with new people, and I worry that I've got something on myself or that my pants are unzipped and that anxiety is not off the good.

9. Name (and elaborate on) your top three BEST and top three WORST qualities (personality-related, not physical). Please answer as fully as you can, as this is an important question.

Best:
1. I am incredibly resilient. Change doesn't bother me - I really just roll with the punches when it comes to it. I can adapt to any circumstance (even difficult ones, after time) and will be as positive as possible because like I said earlier in another answer, I genuinely believe that life is an adventure and we should go along with it.

2. I am incredbily patient. My husband is an engineer, and I credit dating him with expanding my patience. It takes a lot to make me snap at people, and usually that's because I've reached my breaking point.

3. I am very creative. I always think outside the box, have a million different stories running through my head at any different time, and try to take creative approaches to solutions, from what to wear to work to how to handle a difficult student.

Worst:
1. I am a horrible hypochondriac. This stems from anxiety issues, but I will look up every symptom on WebMD when I feel sick to make sure it's not something horrible.

2. I can lack sympathy on occasion. My pragmatic side tends to approach problems with more of a "here's a good solution" than "Oh, I'm so sorry," attitude. This drives my husband insane because when he wants me to be sympathetic, I am so not.

3. I also tend to react to horrific events with hysterical laughter instead of tears, which makes me feel awkward at times. I tend to internalize alot of my anxiety and stress so when I do that, it's hard for me to cry or sympathize as well, and instead I'm just emotionless, which I think implies to people that I don't care when I care too much, really.

A Song of Ice and Fire Related

1.How many books from the series have you completed? All of them

2.Who are your favorite three characters in the series? Why?
*Jon Snow: At first, I wasn't a huge fan of Jon Snow. I found him fairly benign, and his "Woe is me, I am a bastard" routine was annoying. But as the series went on, and he met Ygritte, and then came back and became such a leader of the Night's Watch - well, that sold me. I'm utterly devastated and desparate to see his fate in the next book.

*Jamie Lannister: I hated him, at first, but his adventures with Brienne, and the way that he honor changes after he loses his hand, makes him one of the most compelling characters in the entire story. Brienne really is the kicker, and I love the complex emotions that he feels about her - duty, mixed with honor and respect, and how it's mutual for her as well.

*Arianne Martell: She hasn't had many scenes but the scenes she has had have been intense. I like her because I like the promise of her character, and the way that she's overly cutthroat while Cersei is just covertly cutthroat. Arianne plays the game of thrones much better in my opinion.

3.Who are your least favorite three characters in the series? Why?
*Jorah Mormont: For maybe a hot minute, I wanted him to save Dany. I really wanted him to be there for her. But then, having him be exposed as a liar, and having him constrasted with Barristan Selmy - the epitome of a knight - shows him for the hack that he is. He lacks all moral scruples and is just a despicable character that I never want to see anywhere near Danaerys again.

*Joffrey Baratheon: Between the King and his Hound, two true sociopaths, it's impossible for anyone save the Mad King to measure up to them. His treatment of Sansa was utterly horrific, and his sense of entitlement, breed into him by Cersei, made him a hideous creature.

*Quentyn Martell: So much promise, so little execution.

4.#1 Favorite moment in all of ASOIAF so far? Why?When the Prince of Dorne gathers his family around to tell them that he's made some pretty awesome plans to get back at the Lannisters and everyone, and then dispatches the Sand Snakes throughout the kingdom. It literally gave me goosebumps to think of what would happen with Lady Nymeria in court with Cersei and the others at Kings Landing

5. In your dream-world, how would you like to see the series end, and why?
I'll be honest: first and foremost, Jon Snow would be revealed to be Lyanna's son (yes, I'm sortof in that camp who believes he's Rhaegar and Lyanna's son but I just want to know that he's a Stark through and through). If Jon Snow, Jamie Lannister, and Brienne of Tarth survive to the end, with some or all of their body parts (too late for that hand, Jamie) I will be grateful. I don't care if it's Jamie and Brienne running an Inn somewhere near Lannisport, they just need to make it through for my sake.
