Win or Die

Name: Anya
How did you find out about the community? If it's through an LJ user, please tell us who it is (individual user if possible, not just a community name!): It was mentioned to me eons back by someone and now I can't remember who and I feel a bit guilty about that.
Age: 19
Location: Chicago
Occupation: Student as well as a waitress.

All About You

1. Describe your ideal house/home. Please go into as much detail as possible, and be sure to include your ideal geographical location in the description!.
My ideal home would be located in an urban area. I can't help but picture a small, cozy apartment in one of the older Chicago neighborhoods. On that is a bit old fashioned but has been remodeled in the last few years. Huge windows to let the sun in and a small patio or deck for lounging with a good book in the summer. There would be only a few bedrooms, every room painted a nice calming color. The kitchen would be never used small but comfortable to move around in.

There would be plants everywhere (real, but that I'd likely forget to water) and well as a bookshelf in every room. Oh, and a huge bathroom with one of those old fashion bathtubs with the claw feet.

2. Imagine you’re given the classic opportunity: a genie granting you three wishes. What would you wish for? Please be as elaborate as you can. Wishing for more wishes is not permitted!

1. The ability to change the past. There are so many things I wish I could change, make better, or just erase period. This is a very selfish wish but at the end of the day it's what I want most.

2. Money. I'm trying to pay off school at the moment! This would just be lovely. Not to say that money is everything but it certainly helps for the rest. I would also use the money to help pay off my mom's medical bills, pay for my brother's schooling, pay for my best friend's debt, and to buy myself a better laptop. Just to name a few things.

3. The ability to understand and speak every language. I know this is a weird one but different languages and cultures are fascinating to me. Plus, I'm a Russian History Minor and the ability to understand Russian rather then have to learn it would save me so much time.

3. In your life so far, what accomplishment are you the most proud of? Why? You can list more than one if you have trouble deciding. ;)
This is a bit personal but at least it's honest? The thing I'm proudest of is finding the courage to leave an abusive relationship. One of the hardest things I've ever had to do and something I would never wish on anyone. I apologize but I can't really elaborate more on this answer.

4. Which of the following is most important to you: Love, Money, Knowledge, Family, Friendship, Adventure, or Pleasure? Which is the least important to you? Please explain why for each choice.

Most important? Friendship. Not that family isn't important, don't get me wrong, but at the end of the day I rely much more on my friends. A close second, however, is pleasure. What's the point of being alive if you can't enjoy it?

Least important? Adventure. I enjoy reading about it. And I'd love to go on an adventure of my own but I can be completely happy and content staying at home with my friends, wine, and a good movie on the TV.

5. What's one quote (or passage, song lyric, etc.) that effectively describes you and your values? Explain.

I could probably put down every word that David Levithan has ever written but I suppose I'll have to settle for just one quote.

"Being a bitch is easy. It's finding the alternative that's hard."

I can be a bitch. I can be rude. I can be sarcastic and, when I want to be, down right mean. But at the end of the day that's not always who I want to be. There is a difference between being strong and independent and being a bitch. Not to say that in certain situations acting this way doesn't have it's advantages because it does.

6. How do you manage your money? On that note, how important is money/financial security to you? Go into as much detail as you can.
Money is important and I really wish I was better at keeping track of it. I save a lot but it always manages to disappear around the time that school starts on books, new clothes, and hockey tickets. So I guess I'll say that I am good with money but I have serious moments of weakness. Once out of school and starting my "real job" I have to imagine that financial security will become more important to me and the moments of weakness will become less frequent.

7. Name (and elaborate on) some of your hobbies. What are your favorite things to do outside of school/the office?

Reading. I devour books. I always have one on me and I read everywhere. Train, bus, at work, in bed, during commercials. I've always been that way even since I was I kid. I wouldn't consider myself a "nerd" but I remember my mom used to punish me by grounding me from the library. Worst. Punishment. Ever.

Watching/Playing hockey. I seriously love it. Playing it is fun, although I don't play seriously and usually end up flat on my ass cheering everyone on. But I love watching it. It's the only sport I really enjoy and the only thing my dad and I connect over which makes it very special to me.

Finally, music. I love it. Although, I suppose everyone does. The best way I can describe it is the quote from "It's A Funny Story" which is something to the affect off "Do you like music?" and the girl responds with "Do you like breathing?" Music is perfect. Anything you're feeling or experiencing can be described and made a thousand times better with music.

8. Name three things you are afraid of. Explain.

1. I'm deathly afraid of sharks and I have no idea why. But they are in all seriousness my number one fear. I think it probably has to do with the amount of teeth and they're just so terrifying okay.

2. Not leaving my mark. I want to be remembered by somebody. I want to make a difference for at least one person. The idea that I won't be able to keeps me up some nights.

3. Wasps. Another weird fear, I know, but I am allergic to them and will honestly have anxiety attacks if one gets too close to me to the never ending amusement of my family.

9. Name (and elaborate on) your top three BEST and top three WORST qualities (personality-related, not physical). Please answer as fully as you can, as this is an important question.

WORST:

1. Too argumentative. You know how most people can usually let go of an argument or debate with a simple "Well, that's you're opinion I guess."? I wish I could do that. But most of the time I keep going. My coworker and I are in the midst of a political debate that started around Christmas time. Neither of us can let it go because the other side is just wrong, okay? It's not even about being stubborn. It's just that I wholeheartedly believe what I'm saying, I wouldn't be saying it if I didn't, and I want the other person to realize this.

2. Pessimistic/Distrustful. I've tried to work on this but I really haven't gotten very far. I live with the idea that if something can go it will. If someone looks like they will hurt you, they will. It takes quite a bit to gain absolute trust from me. I wish I could be more open and optimistic but I guess that's just not who I am.

3. Lazy. I try not to be but I am deep deep down. Not that I don't do work or study or whatever but if given the choice between going to an 8 AM lecture or sleeping in guess which one I'm going for?

BEST

1. Realistic. I choose to view this as a good character trait rather then a bad one such as "cynical". I believe in looking at the world as it actually is. No good ever came from burying your head in the sand. Better to know the facts and what you're up against. Even if sometimes the truth hurts.

2. Loyal. Once you have my trust it's yours. I tend to be in long relationships and friendships. Nothing matters to me more then the people I love, even if I don't always say it. If you're my friend and you need help burying a body I'd be on my way over with shovels.

3. Opinionated. I know people would disagree with this but I feel like this is one of the best characteristics to have. Apathy is just disgusting. I have opinions about the things that I understand and I work to learn about the things I don't. I am loud and my opinions can be unpopular at times and occasionally get me into some hot water but I believe wholeheartedly in each and every one.

A Song of Ice and Fire Related

1.Who are your favorite three characters in the series? Why?

ONLY THREE? Ugh.

1. Arya Stark. An obvious answer but that doesn't make it any less valid. Arya is basically everything I wish I could be. Spirited, stubborn, tough, and fiercely independent. I also love how curious and clever she can be.

2. Tyrion Lannister. His humor is just so sarcastic and fantastic. It's had me rolling on the floor a few times. His sarcasm is so perfect and reread his chapters every time I'm finished.

3. Sansa Stark. I was pretty :| about her through the majority of GoT. It's not that I disliked her but I was just uninterested. But she slowly started interesting me more and I loved her character development, slow and believable. I love that she is a woman with power that defies the stereotype of the Strong Female Character.

Honorable mentions: Jaime Lannister and Robb Stark.

2.Who are your least favorite three characters in the series? Why?

All of these are super obvious. Whoops.

1. Joffrey. No. Four books and I'm still not over it. I will never be over it. That little turd deserved everything he got and more.

2. Tywin. His treatment of women drove me absolutely insane as well as his attitude and treatment of his children. Organizing a gang rape of a 13 year old girl to teach a lesson to your son? WTF bro? Maybe find a better way to do that next time that doesn't included scarring your son for life. Or, you know, raping someone.

3. Robert. Again, with the misogyny! And just being an all over prick to Ned and Cersei and everyone until he whored, drank, and ate his way into an early grave causing this whole mess.

3.#1 Favorite moment in all of ASOIAF so far? Why?
Going to be predictable and go with the final chapter of GoT and the birth of the dragons. That was such a "Fuck yes!" moment that I was waiting for the entire book. I loved Dany's character development and this was such a pivotal moment. I just love everything about it.

4. In your dream-world, how would you like to see the series end, and why?
Whatever I can think up would probably pale in comparison to anything that GRRM will think up, that lovable troll. Seriously. The only thing I really want is a happy ending for the remaining Stark children and to figure out what the hell is wrong with Theon Greyjoy, who I like despite myself. Though I would love to see just a giant throw down, blow out with only a few people crawling away. Oh, and Jon and Arya can just chill somewhere and be badass together.

I saw a little bit of Tyrell, but your focus on strength/dislike of misogyny/your traits I think you belong in Martell.

Greyjoy

[identity profile] odeocowboys.livejournal.com 2011-07-12 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
Hmmm...I think Targaryen works well for you. You remind me of Dany quite a bit. There were two reasons for this:

You fear being forgotten and not leaving your mark on the world. I think that's a fear of Dany's in a way, much like it seemed to be a fear of Viserys and maybe even Rhaegar.

And you want the ability to change the past. I think that if Dany had the option, she would go back in time and ensure that Rhaegar would never take Lyanna.

Seems kind of small in the long run, but I can't see you anywhere else.
