All About You
1. Describe your ideal house/home. Please go into as much detail as possible, and be sure to include your ideal geographical location in the description!. I'm not a native Texasn I grew up on the east and I've always wanted to go back. My goal is to wind up in Maine someday, preferably right next to Stephen King, within walking distance of the shore. I want somewhere I'd be able to go and be with people, but when I don't feel like being around people I'd want the option to be alone. Also? Not a fan of summer, so I wouldn't complain about Maine's pretty much year round. Another above 65 is hot for me. I'm absolutely in love with Victorian style homes so, as unrealistic as it seems, I'd love to have one of those perched on a hill overlooking the waves. By a lighthouse. I'd want lots of space, because I'm a bit of clutter. I like to have things in all the corners, and I love weird odds and ends.
2. Imagine you’re given the classic opportunity: a genie granting you three wishes. What would you wish for? Please be as elaborate as you can. Wishing for more wishes is not permitted!
1. to get published. I've been writing for about as long as I remember, and I would love to actually feel confident in my work to put it out there instead of hoarding it in my computer's hard drive. It's one thing to be told you're good at something, it's another to actually believe it. I'm not asking to be a world famous author like J.K. Rowling but having a solid following and being able to move people with my words would be nice.
2. to travel the world. I'm eagerly awaiting for my younger sister to graduate from college because we're hoping to backpack across Europe. I just want to be able to go places. I want to go to Nepal or London or take the Trans-Siberian Railway through Russia. I want to see and do things without having to worry about expenses or the dangers that are out in the world.
3. and then finally I guess to just have a happy, warm family for myself. I'm extremely fortune that my parents created a safe and loving environment for me and my sibling to grow up in. I'd like to do that for my own future children.
3. In your life so far, what accomplishment are you the most proud of? Why? You can list more than one if you have trouble deciding. ;)
4. Which of the following is most important to you: Love, Money, Knowledge, Family, Friendship, Adventure, or Pleasure? Which is the least important to you? Please explain why for each choice.
Most Important: Family. like I said, I had a very good childhood and as you get older you become more aware of family dynamics outside your own, and I realized how important that safety I had was. I think having a solid family unit really helps to foster confident and a sense of belonging.
Least Important: Money. Now, I think money is important, but I don't think it should be as important as all the other things. You can make due without that extra twenty bucks. Not so much without a leg or something.
5. What's one quote (or passage, song lyric, etc.) that effectively describes you and your values? Explain.
Read "Goblin Market" by Christina Rossetti. Oh yes. Read it.
Eat me, drink me, love me;
Laura, make much of me:
For your sake I have braved the glen
And had to do with goblin merchant men
6. How do you manage your money? On that note, how important is money/financial security to you? Go into as much detail as you can.
I am extremely frugal. I've been called cheap a couple of times. When it's something important I don't mind spending it all, but I'm the sort of person where if I don't NEED it, I'll do without. I don't think money is all the important, but I think feeling financial secure is. It takes off a lot of worries. What exactly is financially secure can defer from person to person.
7. Name (and elaborate on) some of your hobbies. What are your favorite things to do outside of school/the office?
1. writing. It's my passion. If I could have majored in creative writing I would have. I've been writing as long as I can remember. I like to create worlds and get to know new people, and I have power over their destinies. But I also like to watch the characters I make grow bigger or smaller than I thought they would be. It's like watching the expanding and collapsing of my own personal little universe.
2. swimming. I love the water. I love to be in the water. I'll take a pool, but if I can spend all day at the beach with a good book, I will.
3. reading. Obviously! But as much as I like to make my own worlds, I like to see what other authors are doing with theirs as well. I'll read anything from classic literature like Heart of Darkness (a favorite) to pure pleasure reads, like Lisa Kleypas. I just love the written word.
4. video games. I'm pretty picky about them, however. I need them to tell me a story, as opposed to just running and shooting people. Luckily, narrative voice have become more important in video games recently, and I am absolutely in love with the Uncharted series. Oh, and I play Nancy Drew. I like to make my head hurt.
8. Name three things you are afraid of. Explain.
1. closed spaces. I have claustrophobia. Just think of enclosed spaces makes me queasy.
2. being alone. I'm a fairly independent person, but I'm also fairly insecure about relationships and it takes me a very long time to open up to people. I've grown up around family members and friends who are very outgoing and engaging, and I still having shaken off that old child fear that everyone is going to abandon me because they think I'm boring.
3. being a burden. I hate to ask for help. I want to be able to do everything and know everything by myself. I don't want others to think that I need them to handle my hand through tasks. I'll spend hours trying to figure out something on my own instead of going to ask someone to show me how to do it.
9. Name (and elaborate on) your top three BEST and top three WORST qualities (personality-related, not physical). Please answer as fully as you can, as this is an important question.
BEST
1. Patience. I work in a daycare, so I've developed buckets of it. I can wait out a screaming 2 year-old for four hours to get them to do what I want them to do. This patience also makes me a calm person, which I wasn't always. I can pretty much repress any anger I'm feeling, even if someone is yelling right in my face. I'll just calmly wait for them to finish.
2. empathic. I've been told I'm a good listener, and most people feel comfortable coming to me to discuss their issues before they go and talk to anyone else. And I don't mind listening, and I'm always willing to give advice to those who'll listen.
3. pragmatic. I'm not quick to take sides. I like to step back and observe all my facts, before I decide which side of an argument is right or wrong. I don't like to let my feelings or bias color an issue. I want all the information I can get and then go and make an intelligent decision.
WORST
1. unsentimental. Because I'm very pragmatic I don't put a lot of value on sentiment. I love and support my friends and family, but I don't mind taking the side against them if I feel they're doing something wrong, nor do I mind telling them that they ARE doing something wrong. It leaves a lot of people feeling that I don't love them and put value into our relationships like I should, even though I do.
2. aloof. I'm slow to open up, and to most people who don't know me I seem pretty cold and standoffish. I've gotten better over the years, but most people who first meet me still think I'm quiet and not interested in getting to know them. Usually I'm just shy.
3. sarcasm. Sarcasm is a part of humor, and usually it's funny, but I'm not super sensitive I take take into account that others are. I like to tease people and sometimes I can get a little mean. It doesn't bother me when people do it to me, but I don't really consider that it might bother other people until their feelings are already hurt.
A Song of Ice and Fire Related
1.Who are your favorite three characters in the series? Why?
1. Daenarys Targaryn. I love her evolution from scared little girl who just wants to go home to a strong, muture woman who understands the world doesn't work as sweetly as she'd like. I also like that while she accepts that harsh actions needs to be taken during war, there are lines she isn't willing to cross.
2. Sansa Stark. I have this thing for girls who start out in a world of sunshine and rainbows and find themselves locked out in the cold. I feel bad for Sansa. She's really trying to make the best of her situation. She's supposed to marry Joffrey, who's playing the eager prince charming to her princess, and I can't blame her for wanting to cling to the hope that it's all going to turn out well. And when they beheaded Eddard? Oh. My. God. My heart for this girl.
3. Jon Snow. It take me until the end of Clash of Kings to warm up to Jon, because it felt like all he ever did was complain but I feel like he's going into a capable adult. I also like how, even though he loves his family, he understands his duty must come first. Jon's acceptance of his duty, as a man of the Watch, as steward, was really what won me over for him. As last Jon seems to get that it isn't about the glory or the honor, but rather protecting and serving others. Plus, Night Watchmen are totally Jedis.
2.Who are your least favorite three characters in the series? Why?
1. Freys. Red Wedding. Get out of my life, Freys.
2. Prince/King Joffrey. I'll be honest, I wanted to feel bad for him. His character in the beginning felt like he was going to the unfortunate bearer of his parent's sins, an unwitting vessel. But then he proved time and time again, he's not suffering Cersi and Jaime's sins. Those are all his own. Bastard.
3. Varys. What a slimy snake. Ew. I just... I just really, really dislike that man.
3.#1 Favorite moment in all of ASOIAF so far? Why? when they killed of Ned in Game of Thrones. Because that was the moment when I realized no one was safe and I was suddenly concerned for everyone character. Because they could all die. GRRM holds nothing sacred. Other than that? Any time Dany was on the scene. Top moment was definitely when she popped out of the fire with dragons. Dragons. Five kings? Game. Set. And match. I love her, and her baby dragons. OR! when Tyrion ignore Ser Alliser and the hand. Pretty much file that under "things I'll likely regret later."
4. In your dream-world, how would you like to see the series end, and why?
*note I'm only about half-way down Storm of Swords because someone in my family took forever to read it
I really want Sansa to become lady of Winterfell. I believe Bran has a calling outside of the castle, and I don't even know if Rickon's going to make it to the end. I'd like Sansa to take Winterfell, a sort of perverse full circle with her. People have been using her for power, and instead she winds up in power. And I know this is probably cliche and whatever, but I want Jon and Dany to have the throne together. A meddling of Ice and Fire, if you will. Well, if Dany and Jon just get together I'll be happy. I need this to happen. Fire and Ice, imrite? I'd like Ayra to be a knight. It'd be awesome if she wound up in the Queensguard for Dany. Oh, and can Littlefinger get his? Not die, but definitely get his. He needs to know what it's like on the receiving end. For one.
