Name: Sarah
How did you find out about the community? If it's through an LJ user, please tell us who it is: Urm. I was looking for some ASoIaF comms, and this popped up...well, nearly everywhere.
Age: 16
Location: Germany. Somewhere out there in the boondocks.
Occupation: student? Wannabe writer?

All About You

1. Describe your ideal house/home. Please go into as much detail as possible, and be sure to include your ideal geographical location in the description!.

My ideal house. Hmm. I'm not too sure about what it would actually look like, but it would probably be located on some kind of cliff, the winds around it and the sea below. On that note, it should probably be made up of something sturdy, but not too rough and hard-looking.

Oh! It would be a house with lots of little alcoves I could store all kinds of stuff in, with three stories and a central stair winding through it. The rooms would all branch away from it, and there wouldn't be normal doors but these neat slidy ones made of wood or some wood-looking plastic.
There'd be lots of shelves for books and little mementos, and a huge library occupying the second floor where the shelves can also slide and reveal secret rooms.

There would also be lots of carpets on the floor, the soft fluffy kind and the floor would be heated so that I can run around barefooted even in winter.

Umm. There would also be a room devoid of anything except a desk, some paper and a pen/a computer so that I could write or draw and for once not get distracted by anything.

The kitchen would be really small, and probably only consist of a microwave and an oven anyways. Actually, nevermind, it would be a proper nice light-brown and grey and white colored kitchen, but I wouldn't use it much except for the microwave and oven.

2. Imagine you’re given the classic opportunity: a genie granting you three wishes. What would you wish for? Please be as elaborate as you can. Wishing for more wishes is not permitted!

- Umm. Best time to admit I'm kind of a selfish person, huh? I wouldn't wish for an end to the war in Afghanistan or something like that -- 'cause quite honestly I think that if people really wanted to stop all those things, they would, but thing is that they're just not willing to get off of their butts and do something useful -- I would wish for time. Yeah, that's right. I want more time than the measly 24 hours creation decided to bestow upon us. Because usually all that time is taken up by school, homework, chores, and only a little bit goes towards things I actually want to do. How am I ever supposed to get somewhere with my writing if I can't keep my eyes open?
- My second wish would be that there'd be unlimited food in the world. Yeah. So that there would be no more poverty and thus no more famines and therefore no more hunger-induced wars. And with a whole lot less conflicts, we -- as in humanity -- would be able to focus on important things, like keeping global warming in check and Fukushima and restricting the damage we're heaping on the planet.
- A third wish? Well, honestly, unless I'm permitted to wish for something cheesy like world-peace, I probably wouldn't wish for anything. I'm happy with the way things are for me right now -- and I've come to learn that when you try to improve something that's already good, it all goes haywire. So no. There would be no third wish for me.

3. In your life so far, what accomplishment are you the most proud of? Why? You can list more than one if you have trouble deciding. ;)

Uh, tough one. Probably that I learned a whole new language in half a year when I was ten years old. The language in question being English, when my family moved to the USA for three years and I didn't know the language or anybody there. By the time we left to go back to Germany three years later, I had learned the language and made a bunch of friends I still keep in touch with although it's again been three years since I've seen them last.
Languages are communication, and communication is people. And people are friends you can depend on.

4. Which of the following is most important to you: Love, Money, Knowledge, Family, Friendship, Adventure, or Pleasure? Which is the least important to you? Please explain why for each choice.

The most important for me is friendship. 'Cause, cheesy as it may sound, if you have friends, the world isn't such a dark and dangerous place. My friends keep me going through hard times and we try to be there for each other when it counts -- and also when it doesn't, so that has to count for something as well, right?

Least important? Money. Though I'm probably only saying this because I'm still in school and don't have to worry that much about money. I do work to earn my money, but I'm not too concerned about it.

5. What's one quote (or passage, song lyric, etc.) that effectively describes you and your values? Explain.

"You may say I'm a dreamer / but I'm not the only one" from the song 'Imagine' by John Lennon (though I prefer the version by A Perfect Circle. But I digress.)

The reason I chose this? Because it describes me perfectly. I'm a dreamer, down to the very core of my being. If somebody took my dreams -- the ones I actually dream at night and my hope-dreams as well -- I think I would die. No joke. Because dreams are imagination, and imagination makes me me and without it I'd be ... well, I dunno what I'd be, but certainly not something I'd like. Or be proud of, for that matter. Because I am proud of the fact that I am a dreamer. I may not be realistic at times, but so what? If I wouldn't have a dreams, I would have no base of reason I could act from.

6. How do you manage your money? On that note, how important is money/financial security to you? Go into as much detail as you can.

Well, I save most of my money for when I get out of school and have to stand on my own two feet. So yeah, financial security is really important to me, because I want to accomplish things on my own without having to depend on others too much for it.

However, when I see something that I really, really want -- recently it was Only Revolutions, a book -- I buy it spur-of-the-moment.

7. Name (and elaborate on) some of your hobbies. What are your favorite things to do outside of school/the office?

Writing. I write a lot , though most of it never gets finished and just collects dust. But I do write, every day, and one day I want to become a proper published author. But not the happy-sparkly-all's well kind of books, nope. Because that's not reality and as much as I'm for angels and aliens and all that stuff, life isn't perfect. The story doesn't end once everybody's happy and the pages run out. That's what I want to get across in my writing. Yes, my grand-story-scheme involves something a lot like angels, a castle somewhere between realities, and lots of parallel universes, but I try to keep it real. No magic swords to save the day, no convenient plot-devices that really make no sense otherwise. Oh, and yeah. No happy endings.

Drawing. Which I don't think I'm particularly good at, but I tend to doodle on anything remotely resembling paper. No particular reason, it's just fun. And it keeps me entertained.

8. Name three things you are afraid of. Explain.

-The thing I'm most afraid of is to be alone. Whether it's the last-person-in-the-world or just alone-in-the-crowd variety, I'm extremely scared of being left all on my own, with no-one at my side. I have nothing I could explain except that I'm dead-scared of waking up one day and finding that everyone I knew suddenly doesn't know me or forgot me.
-Which is the second thing. I don't want to be forgotten. Now, I don't feel the need to be remembered a la some great historical peep, but I want at least some people to remember me once I'm gone. Always. Because once I'm forgotten, who's to say I ever existed in the first place?
-Third thing: deep water. I know that this kind of conflicts with having a house on a cliff, but that's because I like the smell and sound of the sea. But yes. I'm incredibly scared of deep water -- aka water that's deeper than what I can comfortably stand in with my head still peeking out. I don't know the reason for this, as I've never had any particularly bad experiences with deep water, but this fear was just kind of there one day. Which is the reason I almost never go the pool, anyways.

9. Name (and elaborate on) your top three BEST and top three WORST qualities (personality-related, not physical). Please answer as fully as you can, as this is an important question.

Best: Like I said before, I have a wild imagination, which is pretty cool considering how a bunch of people I know seem to be lacking the sparkliness that is ninja-pirate-aliens living in some parallel universe. Second would be my enthusiasm. Once I get into something, I usually stick with it for quite a long time. Umm, example. I don't know if anybody here knows this series -- Pendragon by DJ MacHale. Ten books, finished two years ago. Good story for younger teens, bad ending. But I read it again every once in a while, and I'm usually as excited for it as the first time around. Also, LOST. I kept on telling everybody how awesome a series it was, and when I didn't shut up, a few of my friends actually got around to watching it. Third: my determination. When I want something done, I do it. As quickly and efficiently as possible, no matter what obstacles may lie in my way.

Worst: I am distracted so very, very easily. No need to explain here, it's just the way it is. Second: if something doesn't interest me, I'm probably not going to be doing it. Aka, homework. Which sucks 'cause I usually actually do do it sometime later, except that it's not that good and I would've probably been better off never doing it in the first place. Third: my enthusiasm oftentimes leads to me annoying people. Not on purpose, of course, but it just happens and what would kind of be a fourth quality is the fact that I don't care. As I said before, I'm a selfish person.

A Song of Ice and Fire Related

1.Who are your favorite three characters in the series? Why?

Jaime -- ever since he first appeared in ...Bran's chapter, was it? I can't remember. The one where Robert and his peeps arrive in Winterfell. Of course, my simple 'oh look cool guy' mind-set has evolved, and I've come to realize that I feel pretty bad for Jaime. Cause, everybody hates him, and the one who's supposed to love him only uses him. I dunno if he's ever going to become a 'proper good guy', but honestly, I don't care. I like Jaime the way he is now -- snarky, albeit short one hand.

Davos -- the complete opposite of Jaime. While I didn't hate him in ACoK, he just wasn't that interesting. Now, however, he's my second-favorite character. What can I say? He just grows on you. Especially since he's practically the only really loyal and honest character in the whole series.

Jaqen H'ghar -- same with him. He grows on you. Also, he can change his face and sneak around everywhere, so what's not to like?

2.Who are your least favorite three characters in the series? Why?

Joffrey -- now, he could've been great if he hadn't been such a complete idiot. Argh. Words fail me as I try to describe his epic dumbness.

Littlefinger -- creepy guy with a chin-moustache is creepy. And boring. And in his unpredictability kind of predictable.

Ned -- *hides behind shield* just, no. Never liked him, not one bit. He was honest and stupid, which isn't a good mix. Also, his character was, for me at least, not nearly as intriguing as any of the other's who appeard in AGoT.

3.#1 Favorite moment in all of ASOIAF so far? Why?

Umm, probably the 'The Things I do for Love' scene, simply because a) it shows off Jaime's awesomeness and b) it was the point at which I realized that this wasn't your average fantasy series.
Whoop for originality on my part, here.

4. In your dream-world, how would you like to see the series end, and why?

After the war of the five kings left Westeros crippled and ravaged, Dany swoops in to claim her throne. Though not for long, as the Wall falls and the Others invade the Seven Kingdoms. Dany tries to hold them back but even with dragons, she's fighting a loosing battle and in the end just evacuates everybody from Westeros and lets it be. Oh, and somehow, somewhere, Davos is smuggling stuff. Preferably onions.

I'm sure it's related to your chosen location for your dream house, but I can't seem to get Greyjoy out of my mind. There's a sense of ruthless abandon in you, too, and you even state yourself that you're selfish. I don't think the dreamer/imaginative side of you really fits there, but then again, maybe being able to excape into your own world is what helps you survive the dreary life on Pyke. :)

I can totally see where [livejournal.com profile] moryssa is getting Greyjoy. You have a wild imagination, you seem pretty snarky, you describe yourself as super hot when you're hot... I dunno, you just totally seem like the perfect pirate to me. I've never seen Greyjoy in an app before, so this is so cool!

This. Soooooooo much of this. Also, I have a really cool a cappella version of the APC Imagine mashed with "Pure Imagination" from the old Willy Wonka film. It's pretty awesome, if you like that kind of thing.

Sadly, no, but a lot of the group's other songs are. Look up Stanford Harmonics, all their stuff is awesome (though most of their vids are live, so the sound quality is sometimes iffy).

Oh! And the song in question, "Imagination," can be heard here: http://stanfordharmonics.com/albums/ev/imagination.mp3 The album it's off of, Escape Velocity, is one of the best aca albums I've ever heard, especially from a college group.

Enjoy! :)
