Being that I'm still reading up on the series, my opinion may change after finishing ALL four of the books... but for now I lean on the Tyrell side of the equation. There seemed to be that lightness in the first half of what you wrote, and only later came the stings of wit mixed into it. Even with your dislike of dependence jarring a little with what there is at first, mostly the "hearts and flowers, ooh, shiny" ("sparkly sparkly" as mentioned earlier) impression, until suddenly the Izzard pops up. Well, okay, when the Parker pops up earlier, I guess, but the Izzard shouts out more. ;) I can see what others have called the Martell (and Lannister) sense of humour and the certain aptness of it though, even if I for some strange reason first thought of Renly in relation to it.
