I agree that whichever house grabs you will probably be a lucky one, that said I can't claim you for mine, though you wouldn't be out of place. Ultimately I'll join the Martell crowd for being both principled in some sense and cynical in another. Your ideal living situation and your love of your family and affinity for the road less traveled all are compatible, I feel.
