Other alternatives were House Lannister and House Greyjoy, but if you don't get sorted as a Targaryen nobody will. You've got them all: potential to be great, potential to go nuts, wanting to put yourself under the spotlight... Oh, and you mentioning the french horn made me totally picture Rhaegar playing it instead of the harp >>; but yes, it totally fits.
