Vote on this application and WIN ...OR DIE ! (mod application)
Name: Kim
Age: 23
Location: Brooklyn, NY
Occupation: Administrative Assistant for a nonprofit theatre company and Group Leader for an after-school program (but looking for a "real job")
All About You
1. Describe your ideal house/home. Please go into as much detail as possible, and be sure to include your ideal geographical location in the description!.
My ideal house would be a two or three-floor mansion. I like large, open spaces and hate crowds, so that would be ideal. There would definitely be a home gym as well as indoor and outdoor tracks for running. I'd also like to have my own theatre in the house, so I could put on plays and musicals, or have my friends come and do so. I'd like an Olympic-sized swimming pool with diving boards and a huge, beautiful garden. A library and a dance studio would also be very cool. I'd also really, really like to have loads of secret passageways, just for kicks. ;)
I would like it to be located near a beach (a beach no more than 2 hours away), as I'm a pretty intense ocean lover. I'd also like to be located somewhere sunny, where there is no winter. I hate the cold.
2. Name three things you are afraid of. Explain.
Dogs - I have a phobia here. There's really no reasoning behind it - they just scare me. I can overcome the fear for specific dogs with a lot of effort, but this hasn't stopped the general fear yet. I'm planning to get my own dog at some point in the future to "cure" this.
Death - I don't like the idea of not existing and the fact that we have no idea when or how it will happen to each of us.
Being single forever - It seems like it's going to happen and it makes me incredibly sad. I'm not the the kind of person who needs to be some sort of super-popular party queen. However, I am the type of person who needs one other person to connect with, spend time with, and feel understood from. Not everybody requires a relationship to be happy, but in my fourth year of being single, it's become pretty apparent that I do. Don't get me wrong - I can take care of myself for the most part and it's not like there's nothing good about my life at all - I'd just be much happier if there were some to share my life with, so to speak.
3. What is your favorite aspect of your physical appearance and why?
I think I've got a very sexy "lower half", if you will. I've got a thin waist, a round butt, and fairly nice, toned legs. It contrasts with my very skinny arms and small chest, but I think it looks good nonetheless.
4. If you could change one thing about your physical appearance, what would you change and why?
My ears. I have ears that stick out and tend to look like some sort of hobbit or elf if I have to put my hair up. I deal with it my wearing my hair down most of the time, but it'd be nice to be able to feel pretty with my hair up.
5. Imagine you’re given the classic opportunity: a genie granting you three wishes. What would you wish for? Wishing for more wishes is not permitted!
- I would change the way death works in the world. I would explain to the genie that it should work like this from now on: People get to choose when they die - only you yourself would be in control of your own death - no other person, place or thing could kill you. You could go on living forever this way, but you'd also have the option there, so there would be no Tuck Everlasting kind of problem.
- I'd ask for a time machine. Because time machines are awesome.
- I would wish for George R.R. Martin to finish the series before he dies...or before I die. I'm having my doubts, so I'd just want to be guaranteed an ending. As well as more awesome books.
6. In your life so far, what accomplishment are you the most proud of? You can list more than one if you have trouble deciding. ;)
Eh, have a few:
Being paid to sing - True, this has only happened once (so far!), but it was a nice reward after massive amounts of hard work in voice lessons and music classes.
Winning first place (in my age group) in a 5K - I am not a naturally fast runner. In fact, I'm not a natural "runner" at all. I spent the great majority of my youth as the least athletic person on the planet and I've only recently discovered the joys of really getting into exercise. So, as you can imagine, I was not expecting to win anything when I entered my first race. My goal was to not come in last place. :P
Winning the school spelling bee in fifth grade - Spelling is awesome, what can I say?
My first leading role in a play - I was ten years old and I played the title role in an environmentally-conscious version of a classic children's tale. It was called "Little Red Riding Wolf". Each performance was an incredible high for me - I'd say they were my first "peak experiences".
7. Which of the following is most important to you: Love, Money, Knowledge, Family, Friendship, Adventure, or Pleasure? Which is the least important to you?
I don't even know! I always seem to be asking people questions that I can barely answer myself, haha.
It's an incredibly tough call between knowledge and adventure. I appreciate everything on this list very much, but I feel like these two are broader and would encompass more things. I also feel that knowledge and adventure are related - you always learn something new when you are adventurous enough to go trying/seeing new things, after all. I'm all about the new things, whenever possible, and I like to learn as much as possible about as many things about possible (and use the word "possible" as much as possible). So, yes, most important is a tie between knowledge and adventure.
Least important is probably "pleasure", since it can come from any of the other things mentioned on the list. Also because I am able to resist opportunities for pleasure if I know it will pay off in the long run. Of course, if I know it won't pay off in the long run, then I figure I might as well indulge.
8. What's one quote (or passage, song lyric, etc.) that effectively describes you and your values?
Tragedy is when I cut my finger. Comedy is when you walk into an open sewer and die. - Mel Brooks
Well, this quote describes how I see human nature, in any case. :D
Then there's this:
Life is full of misery, loneliness, and suffering - and it's all over much too soon. - Woody Allen
And this:
Everybody lies - Dr. House
As you can see, I'm not the most optimistic and positive person in the universe.
9. How do you manage your money? On that note, how important is money/financial security to you?
I manage my money fine. My bills are always paid on time, which is really saying something since my stupid health insurance company seems to send me a new bill every other day. However, I don't make very much money at the moment, and I am looking to do so. I get these periods of horrible, intense shame whenever I think about how I'm 23 years old, have been out of college for over a year, and I seem to be unable to support myself entirely on my "salary".
10. Name (and elaborate on) some of your hobbies. What are your favorite things to do outside of school/the office?
I have quite a few:
Singing - I've taken about eleven years of private voice lessons and I've always been in some kind of chorus ensemble thing. Singing is a huge passion of mine, though I'm much more into solo singing than the group thing.
Acting - Goes with the singing - I've done lots of musical theatre and plan on doing much more. I get enormous pleasure from getting to "be" other people in plays and scenes and I'm pretty talented at this, as well.
Dance - Unlike acting and singing, I have no actual talent when it comes to dancing. I just love to do it. I'm currently taking tap classes, but in the past I've taken ballet and jazz, too. I'm also a huge fan of So You Think You Can Dance, haha.
Running & working out - I only started getting into this stuff in college. When I was younger, I had a problem with my knees where they were constantly getting dislocated, so I had a lot of fears when it came to athletic things. However, after plenty of physical therapy, I've learned that I actually love to be as active as possible. It's fun and makes me feel good about myself. Running outside is my favorite, but I also enjoy taking classes like yoga, body sculpting, and kickboxing.
Photography - I am never without my camera. I've been doing Project 365 this year, so I've been especially intense in the photo-taking department. I like to capture the beautiful things I see, as well as the fun times I enjoy. I don't want these things to be forgotten.
Cooking/Baking - I have a lot of fun blasting terrible mix CDs in my kitchen while stirring ingredients together.
Livejournal polls - I am obsessed with polling my friendslist on livejournal. I am always asking everybody all kinds of questions about whatever the hell happens to be on my mind.
Reading - Duh. I can't even get on the subway without a book to entertain me.
Word Games - I'm a Boggle fanatic. I also happen to be very, very good at it. However, I like word games (in general) more than well enough, so I'm also willing to play games I suck at, such as Scrabble. :)
I'm sure there are more that are just not coming to mind at the moment.
11. Name (and elaborate on) your top three BEST and top three WORST qualities (personality-related, not physical).
Best:
-I'm a hardcore, meaning that I am a hard-working, dedicated, occasionally insanely obsessive person. I am willing to put a solid amount of effort into things, from academics to fitness to music and so on. I like to try and push myself to do things, though of course, like anyone, I do have my lazier days. I hate making excuses for myself.
-I'm very organized. I always have a to-do list running, either on paper or in my mind (usually both). For the most part, I'm quite good with time-management and prioritizing what needs to be done.
I am open to experiencing new things. I enjoy variety. I like to try new foods, see new places, hear new ideas, etc.
Worst:
-I can be very indecisive. For example, I changed my major about five times while in college because so many subjects appealed to me. I've had many different career goals, too. I'm good at too many things and I like too many things. If I had 500 years to live, this would be fine because I'd have time to do it all, but I don't and it's frustrating.
-I can be rather cynical...and paranoid. I assume people are lying to me a lot, since so many people have in my life thus far. It's hard for me to feel like I can trust someone, since very few people I've known have shown me that they deserve any kind of trust.
-I can be a little too competitive. While winning is not the most important thing to me (winning means nothing to me if there's no challenge involved), I do tend to enjoy it. ;) Unfortunately, when things don't go well, my competitive nature sometimes leaves me feeling very jealous, or just upset with myself for not doing well enough.
A Song of Ice and Fire Related
1.Which is your favorite book of the series so far? What about your least favorite?
My favorite is a tie between A Clash of Kings and A Storm of Swords. Unfortunately, I can't remember exactly why since the books seem to blend together for me after finishing the series. I know Storm of Swords had the extremely cool benefits of a Jaime Lannister POV and that shocking Red Wedding scene.
I have no least favorite. I love them all.
2.Who are your favorite three characters in the series?
-Jaime Lannister -Wicked sense of humor, wonderful contrast between how everyone sees Jaime and how he actually is, very interesting story arc, what else could you need?
-Tyrion Lannister - Such a hilarious smartass! I also like the fact that he has such a soft, romantic side in him - it's so sad.
-Asha Greyjoy - The bets of the Greyjoys, for sure. She's a really admirable independent, funny, clever woman, and I adore her.
Honorable mentions go to Sandor Clegane, Arya Stark, Sansa Stark, Jon Snow, The Queen of Thorns, and Dolorous Edd.
3.Who are your least favorite three characters in the series?
-Craster - One of the grossest creatures I've ever read about.
-Melisandre - She's just not that interesting to me. I don't care about her flames or her shadow babies. She seems like a bit of a caricature to me.
-Lysa Arryn - As someone who works with young children at the moment, I have a special kind of hatred reserved for parents who don't know WTF they are doing and end up creating little beings like Robert. Ugh. On the other hand, without her being so horrible, would that Moon Door scene have been so absolutely fantastic? Probably not. XD
4.#1 Favorite moment in all of ASOIAF so far?
Asha's introduction chapter. I feel like this is a perfect example of the kind of twisted humor that makes ASOIAF better than your average fantasy novel/series. Plus, I just love Asha. And it was lovely to see Theon be made a fool of, of course.
5. In your dream-world, how would you like to see the series end?
I actually did have a dream about the end of the series, but it was hardly my ideal ending. In my dream, ALL of the characters were murdering each other in a giant schoolyard and the last two survivors were the Darkstar and Brienne of Tarth. They ended up finishing each other off anyway.
Okay, so back to the actual question, I have no ideal ending in mind. I'm sure GRRM will end it perfectly. That is, if he ever manages to get to the last book.

"I don't like the idea of not existing..." <-- THAT, certainly, seems a very Lannister way of putting it. And this one's going to be left without further explanation, because I can; just wanted to point it out. Yep.
Also, that fear of being single? Ahhh yeah. However, it's for happiness... Doesn't immediately strike as Lannister... but, hrn, on a bit of further thought, the hell in Tyrion looking for? And Jamie? And sounds as if Tywin went the same way. Even Cersei seems to desire someone more understanding than the jackass she had, though she tends to let herself be overrun by other concerns in terms of partnering... But, y'know, there does seem to be a search for trust in Lannister close-relationships, perhaps in order to make up for the rest of that rather not-so-trustworthy world. Seeking to build strength/confidence close on hand, or something. So, yes, that does seem to fit.
"...it'd be nice to be able to feel pretty with my hair up." <-- Probably a bit more Tyrell, here, but can see it being a bit in line with the Lannister vanity, as well, so I'll count it (also counts more for Lannister becaussssse pleasure at bottom of list takes away more from Tyrell, aye).
"...only you yourself would be in control of your own death - no other person, place or thing could kill you." <-- Lannisters definitely big on the control issue. Could also give points to Targaryen for this, but, ah, just doesn't seem to suit nearly so well... not according to this-appy, anywho. Erbviously runs in line with the Lannister, however, and as noted, they've got very much the WILL CONTROL ALL AND DEFINITELY SELF vibe going on, so yes, that fits.
Interesting also that the majority of your yay! accomplishments involved coming out at the head of the pack and beating others; sort of a competitive indication there (er, not necessarily competitive, but indicates something of the sort, seems, which certainly fits. Use of the House quote? Christ, yes; Lannisters KNOW about the lies, man, recognize their existence and act in accordance. They fuckin' fairly deal in them. FUN STUFF. The best/worst qualities fit, and... Hell. It's written all over your application. If you should DESIRE further explanation, am more than willing to give it (at moment, brain is just sort of going juwxbwx, though), so-o yessss... Feel free to say if so, and either way, there stands another Lannister vote pour vous. W00T.

I vote Lannister.

I'm gonna vote for House Lannister, your descriptions (I can be rather cynical... / I'm very organized.) and some of your replies give me that vibe.
I haven't been sorted, but perhaps my app was rejected... or you're overwhelmed right now.
Under your favorite book in the series:
Under your favorite characters:
Under how you manage finances: So you, "always pay your debts..."
Under your worst qualities:
Under your best qualities: Hard working, committed, etc.
Therefore, House Lannister, QED.

House Tully, ringing in
... but it's Tyrell from me, and here's why: even though you always pay your debts and you're gung-ho in charge ready to win, you care too much about what other people think to be a Lannister (constantly polling your flist [I'd do the same, to be honest, except I don't think many would respond!], fear of being alone forever). And since you hate winter so much, the lush grounds of Highgarden would suit you very (very) well. :)

House Tyrell
You seem ambitious and rather competitive, but in a good way. Lannisters are a bit more obsessed with winning at all costs, no matter what, and you don't seem so obsessed. Tyrells are ambitious as well, but in a different way that I think would suit you well.
