Yeah, the very sympathetic arc of Jaime's is certainly part of it. But I still don't think they've grown to be very different from each other. However even prior to that arc Cersei got far, far more hate than Jaime, even when they'd essentially been implicated in the same things (their relationship, Jon Arryn and covering it up, Bran). So there's more at play than just that storyline imo.
